I usually enjoy getting screwed.

Not sure as a retired person that I would pay 100k a month, but for a tourist with a job in the real world, peanuts.

Yes the real world, where tourist numbers in Thailand increase year on year and the Thai economy bounces back quickly and actually grows after devastating floods, where the PM never fronts to parliment but still can run the country effectively, where there is no inflation, in fact prices reduce, where hundreds of road deaths are a zero songkram success, where convicted criminals can run a country by proxy and terrorist can be Mps and where a Thai family can live beyond their means due to the generosity of strangers on the internet. Amazing, miracle Thailand world.

Yes, a miracle world in which despite all those problems and frustrations, still manages to be the one place in the world where tens of thousands of westerners give up all the comforts of their western democratic countries to live in. A country where people would prefer to cut off their right <deleted>, than go home. A country where so many of us decide to call home.

I wouldnt have it any other way.

yeah, but there aren't that many nicely proportioned tall girls in Thailand (seems to be a western italian-irish-scottish-english combination characteristic) so ye haveta take what ye can get...but I've been lucky in that regard as my wife has the nicest equipment in the area where we live...

This one i find kinda funny in the sense that...well, somewhat of a personal observation..

In the west (from my experience anyway) if you were to wear REALLY short shorts or skirts and heels, you would get looked at like you were half naked. Here its normal. No bad looks looks if wearing short shorts or skirts.

However, in the west (in general) girls dont get looked at funny for showing cleavage. Yet here, even if wearing respectable clothing, as soon as cleavage is shown, that look of "OMG..you are half naked!" appears.

Personally dont find people getting done over funny. Stupid, naive, indulgent even, but not funny.

I also dont find it funny when im happily having coffee some place and another westerner whos been done over due to his bad decisions, decides to give me his tale of woe...and how he used to be down on western women but now he thinks differently and wont date a thai woman again..and blah blah blah.. (failing to realise it was more likely their choice in woman, not the nationality of the woman that was the problem...)

I dunno, maybe i look like i want to hear it.

Ive ended up finding out of the way coffee shops.

ear plugs...or headphones......wear these at coffee shops...they give a strong FO message.

Story of my life in a nutshell. I'm pretty tall for a girl (174 cm) and I have extremely long legs. So whenever I buy skirts which on a Thai girl would come to mid thigh... I just look ridiculous and its so short, I'm scared to bend over and if I ever wore such a thing in the UK I'd get looked at like I was a slut or something so I really struggle buying skirts in Thailand. However it seems the norm here to show abit of thigh and no one bats an eyelid. Always a different story when you have a little bit of cleavage on show though!

I sometimes wonder where these figures of Falungs paying 100,000 thb a month originate from - from the chap giving the money or from the Thai side because i have only heard these figures from the Thai side and i put it down to one up manship, or should i say one up bargirlship. Makes them more Hi-So .They are highly competive in the bullshit stakes .

Exactly what I was going to say. There are some people in my gf's family who, when we are around them, just talk non-stop about what they have and what they have just bought. We sit down and they show us all of their things like a toddler does with their toys and just says "this was 500 baht, this was 1,000, this was 800 baht", all fricking night.

Funnily enough whenever we do anything for ourselves, like at each stage of our house build, they would tell us how they just "won" 100 million baht on the stock market, or the husband has just given her 10 million baht for shopping and their 7 year old child has 400 million baht in his bank. These stories are all told over and over while we are sitting on the concrete floor of their parent's wooden shack which they have promised to spend 10 million baht renovating "sometime soon".

The point is, a lot of Thais talk a lot of crap to promote their position of top dog and neverending game of one-upsmanship because, for them, it is important to show they have so much in a village where everyone has so little. It's quite a horrible streak in the Thai psyche but one that you will see a lot of if you live here.

Just ignore it, let them get on with it and worry about your own business.
