hi all

im thinking of going to trang in june and visiting the islands such as koh kradan koh ngai.

im just a bit worried about the weather and the reports of rough seas at this time of year.

i read that a few boats have been sunk recently around phuket and krabi due to very rough seas.

will all the islands in that area be open at this time of year?

and what is the weather like in trang in june?

is it a good time to go there ?

many thanks

As far as i know the resorts are not opened so as no services to and from most of the islands. You might be able to visit them, not sure.

I was gonna travel to Satun, Koh Tarutao and been told they don't operate in the rainy season, sometimes until November. I guess the same applies to Trang. But i am no expert so better to check on it.

Koh Mook and koh Kradan will be open to tourism all year round although some of the smaller resorts on Koh Mook and Koh Kradan often close for the latter part of the rainy season.

Public ferries run daily and all year round from Kuantuku pier to Koh Mook (50baht) A minivan can be arranged from Trang City to Koh Mook (200baht incl ferry ticket). The tourist information office at the right side of the sri trang hotel in Trang City will arrange your ticket/transfer or if you wish any of the small restaraunts near the railway station will gladly call the minivan associated with the ferry (Bang Lee's) while you have breakfast. I recommend the meeting place cafe. You may also take the local minivan service to Kuantuku but this will only leave when there are 4 or more passengers and it can be a nuisance waiting. The ferry leaves Kuantuku at approximately 12.30pm each day.

There are no off season ferries from phuket/Lanta etc to Kradan but resorts on Koh Kradan have their own transport options. I suggest you make your way to Koh Mook first and then you can always transfer to Koh Kradan easily as it is the next island to Mook. Also Mook at this time of year is while quiet a bit busier with a little more to see and do than koh kradan. Kradan is an Island without a village, just resorts so it may be a little boring off season or on wet days and is also more expensive than Koh Mook. There is absolutely no need to prebook your accomodation on either island this time of year. You will find a lot more information on websites like tripadvisor.

Captain sized it up pretty well for you. Koh Muk doesn't seem like much imo, Kradan meh...

If in Trang and looking to have someone hook it up for you, pls contact Jip at Happy Travel, main road near Rwy Sta.

You will be bored witless and subject to vagaries of whatever is available on island for food. For this reason, you might try Muk or stay at (at least eat at) Paradise Lost on Kradan.

No reason you can't do both, they are close. Cheap boat to Muk, wait around till a longtail headsa to Kradan, go to Kradan, wait around for cheap boat back and then back to mainland.

I really hate Lipe but inclined to tell you to go there and daytrip to Rawi and snorkeling areas. Muk is nothing and Kradan is OK for a day or two.

Best islands and their NPs are closed for season.
