Looking For A Decent Thai Cooking Class

Featured Replies

I am looking around for a good Thai cooking class, can be in Thai or English.

The course must cover a multitude of dishes with good hands on experience of how to prepare and cook the dish, with some kind of lesson on ingredients, what can be used as a substitute outside of Thailand, preparation of the pastes etc.

I've looked online and seen a few 'cooking schools' but they seem a touch expensive considering what you actually learn in the class, so was wondering if any TVF members knew of any schools that might be better value for money?

Thanks in Advance!

Baipai cooking school is good. But if I had the time, I would go to UFM on Sukumvit soi 33. I've taken two Thai dessert cases there and have not been disappointed. Www.ufmeducation.com. Check out there offerings. Remember, you get what you pay for

My 2 oldest and closest friends are chefs. I get them to show me how to make anything and it doesn't cost a bean.

I've been to three cooking classes in Thailand and Lao, and this one is by far the best: www.thaihouse.co.th. The coursle leader Pip is immensely knowledgeable. Maybe I was a bit lucky when I went as we were only four people attending, but I think the classes are limited to a certain number anyways.

Be warned though, the class is not as hands on as the others I have done, each student does not get their own cooking centre. It's still one of the best learning experiences I've had in my life, on account of how much the course leader Pip loves cooking and how good she is at conveying her knowledge and taking her time to make sure everyone has a thorough understanding of the process. You really get to understand the whole process of preparing the dishes, and a good understanding of the role of the ingredients.

It should also be said that I am above average interested in cooking, even for someone who would attend a cooking class, and if you're looking for something a bit quicker and less expensive maybe a trip out to the outskirts of Bangkok in a boat is not the best choice.
