Reconciliation bills not aimed at getting Thaksin's money back, his lawyer says

The Nation

BANGKOK: -- A lawyer for fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday rejected allegations by the Democrat Party that the government-backed reconciliation bills were aimed at granting amnesty to the ex-leader so he could get back Bt46 billion seized by the Supreme Court before the red-shirt uprising two years ago.

Noppadon Pattama issued a statement countering the opposition allegations. He said the proposed law, if and when it takes effect, would not stop Thaksin from facing legal action for offences allegedly committed while he served as prime minister (from 2001-2006).

Noppadon said the Democrats would not succeed in separating Thaksin from the red-shirt movement. He dismissed their claim that Thaksin had used his red-shirt supporters for political gain but now ignored them.

At a recent gathering by the red shirts, Thaksin asked them not to "follow him to the mountain" after they had "rowed the boat to send him to the bank". This remark was seen as meaning that Thaksin did not want the red shirts to make trouble while he was trying to reach his goal by other means.

But after dissatisfaction expressed by many red-shirt leaders, Thaksin later tried to explain himself by saying his earlier remark was made during a period of poor signals while he was in a rural area overseas.

Noppadon said yesterday that Thaksin was wealthy even before he entered politics. He said the Forbes financial magazine reported that Thaksin was worth almost Bt70 billion before he became foreign minister in 1997. He claimed the Democrats distorted the facts by saying Thaksin amassed his wealth while in power.

However, Democrat spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalyasut said the truth was that Thaksin had less than Bt40 billion in 1997 but his wealth increased to more than Bt74 billion after he became prime minister.

He said the value of Thaksin's shares, held by his nominees, jumped while he was in power because of stock manipulation, resulting in him being Bt46 billion richer. That was the amount seized by the court.

"Thaksin is no different from some selfish businesspeople who think of their benefit over other people's interest," the spokesman said.

I don't think it is there opinion...they just say what they are paid for to say....

If you work as Apple spokesman you of course tell that Apple is without mistakes.

If you work as Thaksin spokesman you say that he doesn't want the money back, no matter that he himself told different...

Did Forbes then also report on the huge losses he must have apparently suffered between then and his official asset declaration statement in 2001 reporting a miniscule amount, relative to 70 Billion, of only 569 million?

How did he incur such a gigantic loss?

If, according to T's liars lawyers, that the shenanigans in parliament are not about getting 47 billion baht paid to T's bank account, then they should declare the following (of course, no one will believe anything they declare, but it's a start).

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

On behalf of my client, Mr. Thaksin, I hereby promise that even if he should be paid any amount of money from the Thai treasury or any other Thai establishment, due to the repercussions of one or another of the bills currently being discussed in parliament, neither Mr. Thaksin, nor any of his family members, nor any of his nominees will accept any money offered.

The dream Reconciliation bills has 2 clauses:

1. Thaksin walks free, and can do no wrong in the past, present and future.

2. Give back Thaksin money plus 100% interest (compounded).

However, Thaksin lawyers (notably, the King scholarship to Oxford guy) has better way to circum-navigate the wordings.

The dream reconciliation bill gets passed when all the money's gone. That in the reserve accounts and all that can be borrowed. All the democraqcy and constitutional and amnesty crap is just a diversion until the day the money's all gone.

This is the same lawyer who told us, his client would be traveling to England and then to the US a month or so ago. There was nothing in English papers about his arrival nor has he travelled to the US since his escape from justice.

His PR people, lawyers, and coharts, all on the payroll, are keeping his name in print by what ever means. This keeps them on the payroll, as well as stimulating his ego.

That is because Thaksin in ban in UK, and has been ban since day 1 of Thaksin conviction.

If he dare to arrive in UK, MI5 MI6 and Interpol will arrest his and pass him back to Thailand coup government.

He was convicted long after the coup government so UK could have hardly give him for the coup government (unless they have a time machine)

He was pictured at a soccer match, just weeks ago and presumably taken in the UK. Certainly the British ambassador has kept quiet in the face of commentary about Thaksin once again obtaining a UK visa . . . which, I suppose, could mean anything, but probably that he sees the benefit of avoiding exacerbating the negative press.

And why MI5 - never mind MI6 - should get involved is beyond me.
