All of that bang on, but you'll notice neither Carragher or Neville brought up Mourinho's habit of losing the dressing room. Probably not the time or place to do so, but if you want a no holds barred conversation about United's current troubles Mou's poor man management skills have to enter the talk eventually.

I think you are right when you say not the time or place.  That side of things is rather more speculative if not patently obvious to most bar some United fans. In his heyday Jose could say and do pretty much whatever he wanted and the media would lap it all up.  That changed around the time of his disgraceful public humiliation of the Chelsea doctor which was a catalyst to his second unprecedented dressing room revolt.  As we stand today with Pogba saying he'd be fined if he said what he wanted , a trend of the manager publicly calling out individuals to the media,  lowering expectations...ofcourse theres going to be low moral!!!  Its ghastly man management.  Some one should have pulled him up long ago and questioned <deleted> he thinks he was doing!!!

I think the refrain is due to the fact we are 2 games in. I’m sure they’d both have no problem with that subject in a few weeks if it was the case again.

True enough BBob. What annoys is the avoidance of the fact that Mourinho has made a meal of the wonderful footballers on his plate at both Chelsea and United. Add in his jettisoning of players at Chelsea who became superstars.

I'm no fan of Woodward but he may feel he was asked to throw good money after bad.

I don’t think you’ll have to wait to long , this is not going to end well.

No one actually knows whether or not Woodward was instructed by the owners to get a today manager or one to build and the point made by Neville about this is very valid.

Both absolutely bang on the money, Woodward and the Glazers are our main problems not José, When we was winning trophy after trophy under the Glazers the Glazers out campaign faded and the leaches was let to happily use United at their will, The vast amounts of money taken out by them and not one cent of their money put back in is coming to roost.

This. Woodward failed in the transfer market this summer.

Or not.

"I speak to people at the club and I think that there is a good spirit in the dressing room,” Neville told his Sky Sports podcast.

GETTY

"This idea...he's not lost the players. I don't think for one minute he's lost the players so I think it would be wrong to suggest that about this game."

Looks to me like not enough of the prima donnas stepping up to the plate.

Pogba is a flop for me in the Premiership...but we'll see on Monday won't we!!

They didn't look a happy bunch at Brighton.  Still, we will see at Old Trafford on monday night.

They simply must put in a committed performance.  I would have thought they will.

Pogba is quality but the Mourinho system is clearly not to his suiting.

The vultures have very definitely been hovering on this thread of late, and there are those in the press - jamie jackson (?) Guardian  - stoking the fires to get mourinho out.

Current style of play at ManU isn't  great and I'll  bet Mourinho would admit that himself but he's created some very decent teams over the years, at various clubs, more than once  in Chelsea's case, so why couldn't  he do it again?

Two cup trophies first season, Premier  runnersup last season (which is a better performance than the far more lauded on here, Klopp and Pochettino, have done), 2nd best Premier defence record both seasons  i believe so defensively decent, he could be a tweak here and there from coming  good again. Had he got the players he wanted in the summer he'd  be a step further forward. I'm  obviously  hoping Mourinho  spits the dummy and leaves or the management tire of his antics and axe him, but if not surely his past record says he WILL come good again.

Back to the vultures (usual suspects ?).

And FA cup runners up! I was surprised that United finished league runners up last season to be honest.

No-one apart from Mourinho and Woodward knew of the players they were looking at during the transfer window so unless you have inside knowledge of what was required to say Woodward failed is wrong.....yes we were crap at Brighton but after just two games its a little early to start pushing the panic button yet....time will tell one way or the other......its only a bloody game after all

But we know Mourinho wanted more players. It was very widely reported we were in for Toby and MacGuire, pretty much public knowledge. Everybody has their price and we weren't willing to pay it.

And that gaping hole in central defence isn't going anywhere, at least until January.

Best bet is probably to get Jones or Smalling to knuckle down and hope we don't make too many errors + DDG does his thing. Which is what we've been doing since Fergie left.

The crucial point made by Neville is that by extending Mourinho's contract, (and totally unnecessarily so) he was effectively backing him which meant that he simply had to buy the center backs.  The view that he's now putting over is he doesn't trust Mourinho's judgement anymore.  Alderweirald was definitely available, probably MacGuire also.  All this though belies the fact that Mourinho hasn't improved one single player, his man management dreadful and attitude at yesterdays press conference quite childish and pathetic.

His real inner probably is down to Pep only spending 150m more than him, yet winning the league in a canter and developing a side thats now vastly superior to Mourinho's.  A vast gap in every facet thats just going to increase.  Far from what he was probably tasked to do when appointed to be manager.

Rick

Ignore what the papers say, most of it is b**lsh*t and speculation...they have had a field day regarding United these past few weeks, which is nothing new...Fergie once said (and quite rightly) the press need United far more than United need the press.

We currently have FIVE international central defenders (not counting the young fringe players) two of which played against Brighton and were signed by Mourinho it is up to him to get the best out of them...last season we finished second with an excellent defensive record so why should we need to buy more unless we are losing someone? my priorities would have been a couple of top quality midfield players (we only got one) and a specialist right winger...the guy Perisic would have been ideal....what goes on behind the scenes at any football club we know very little about apart from the "stories" in the press and why print the truth when speculation and hersay sells more copies.

Mondays game is huge for both players and manager, the players reaction to the Brighton defeat will speak volumes as to whether they want to play for the manager/club or not.....those that don,t should be shipped out ASAP.

And that is a key point in my opinion – – Woodward was asked to go and buy two players (defenders) who, although good, were at the wrong end of their playing careers, whilst United had nine recognised defenders, seven of whom were internationals??

In addition, the club has a few "good to average" players who probably wouldn't command a position in a top European team, or even dare I say it, in the Manchester City team, so why hang onto them?

I agree with this poster that a couple of top quality midfield players and a specialist right-winger would help United cause much more than a couple of extra defenders, because the very valid point is that United had an excellent defensive record last season, and all that was missing, IMO, was creative midfielders who could control the game and also "pick defensive locks".

Throwing money at players that aren't really needed whilst overlooking the very obvious shortfalls in midfield and the glaringly obvious painfully slow buildup and style of play is not a good option for the club and I think that's what Woodward may have surmised.

This man utd squad is full of top quality internationals who are very capable to perform for their countries so the question is why does

Mourinho want to replace some of them?

You have to point the finger of blame at Mourinho as he's the one who coaches them, and manages their performance levels.

IMO there's nothing wrong with the current centre backs, or the midfield and attacking players in this squad, if anything needs improving, it would be the left & right fullbacks Valencia & Young are both reaching their later part of their careers both 33yrs old.

Then you have Darmian & Shaw who are not really settled in to be first choices, that could change in time, but replacing the two elder FB's with better quality than Darmian & possibly Shaw is what's required.

City, Liverpool, Chelsea & Spurs have all got better FB's in their squads.

Speaking purely as a Yank who has no knowledge of football, yet enjoys it:

Herrera has to go.

Lindelof has to go

Pogba is worthless

Why were Young, Rashford and Mata not playing.

If hustle alone would win games, Lindgard would be the man of the match.

Happy the way we played should have at least scored one in the first half, 2nd half once they scored game over.

Spurs have some great players and well done deserved their win.

The effort was there, no doubt about that.  And it was a clear penalty,  but, at 0-2 down why didn't he bring on Rashford?!!  And Fellaini instead!

The United player that impressed for me was Shaw.  Seems he does have a future at United after all.
