BangrakBob
Just listening to a reporter on telly who has done the math on the Adidas deal. He reckons looking at normal shirt sales, for Adidas to get a return on investment the price of the shirts will have to increase to 90-100 quid. I think Barca currently charge 90 euro's and are the most expensive. How much are they now? Just looked on their website and the 2014/15 short sleeved shirt is 55 quid That's some increase if thy raise the price.

I think Barca currently charge 90 euro's and are the most expensive. Likewise mrbj, I don't want to get argumentative and picky. Adidas return on investment will mostly come from volume, not by increasing prices. Bigger market, more shirts. Not same market, higher price. Otherwise Nike would do it. Same boat. Not an argument but I disagree P45. That's why Nike pulled out, they couldn't make commercial sense of it. If as you say they will have to increase volume then Adidas will have to almost double shirt sales to get a return. This is obviously better for the fan but if volume doesn't increase drastically then all that remains is hiking up the prices to fans. Time will tell on who got their figures right. Either Nike or Adidas. Nike pulled out because they've sponsored UNITED for a long time and see the Moyes fiasco and no CL as bad news. Adidas know the real strength of the UNITED brand and are committing to the future. Adidas did UNITED shirts way before Nike did. Adidas will use UNITED to leverage against Nike. And one day soon, some bright executive will go into the Adidas board and make a presentation along the lines of "This is the Adidas Heritage" More top football clubs will wear Adidas than any other kit. Nike might dominate basketball and other stuff.

P45Mustang
^ Yep. Good point rij, time to move on. But like redrus said their must be a very good reason why Adidas are shelling the biggest wedge ever to United. Popular Post nellyp
I can see the prices skyrocketing. Sales will undoubtedly fall off as fickle Asians turn the purchasing power to another club higher up the table. Adidas have paid the money as they want the long term bonus, and the value of their payment will diminish over 10 years rather than re-negotiating every 3 years. Adidas wanted to add another marque club to their portfolio, and a good one it is (portfolio I mean). They are having a punt with a club that will never become unpopular, but Nike obviously believes that united vying for the highest positions could be a thing of the past. The argument about Adidas being more clued in than Nike holds no water, and to be honest, Football is much more important to Adidas. So my opinion is this, Adidas will come out of this a winner. VG will take at most 3 years to get united back to the top, and Adidas will not need to negotiate a deal with united again. Shirt prices will go up as the increase in sales would be far too much. God i hate the generic shirts that adidas m.ake though

Do you think Adidas will double current and historical sales or double the cost of the shirt?

mrbojangles
Rumour has it that United are after James Rodriguez for £63m. Hope there's no substance in that. He was one of the shining stars in the WC and I'd love to see him at City but maybe in acouple of years when he's filled out a bit. Maybe a tad lightweight for the prem at this stage Sent from my GT-N8000 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Lets face you don't get the push having just won the league by seventeen points. Don't United already have an overflow of no10's......anyway if Rodriguez goes anywhere it'll be Real Madrid. Best player in the world cup by a distance despite who FIFA selected. I'd have thought van Gaal could use a box to box midfielder like Vidal more than another no10 though no matter how good the lad obviously is.

redrus
Rodrigues and Kroos to Real. Pogba, possibly to Chelsea. Will be an excellent signing, I was very sad and annoyed to see him leave United, far more than I was to see Morrison leave. Vidal to United.
