I'm still hoping my return 90-day will be sent to me. I keep checking the tracking but they haven't posted it. I don't think they have called but who knows... I'm often not at home.

Also hope that they have actually done it.

As most people would be aware they have discontinued the 90 day mail in service.

Went in today around 3:30 went to desk #5 and they asked me for a ticket but I didn't have one, the officer then checked the date which was due today then completed the form. He actually showed me a large plastic tub full of unopened envelopes.

I would suggest that anyone who has posted in a 90 day report will have to go there in person to get their previously posted report completed.

True. Thought I would give it a little time before going there. From the tracking I see they received it the day after I sent it -- 24 November as I recall. I really have to gear myself up psychologically to go there and deal with that place. I passed by the other day after leaving Airport Plaza and it was insanity from what I could see.

Thanks for that. Just what I didn't want to hear.sad.png

If the envelopes are unopened, I presume that would mean the report could be overdue, despite the fact they received it on time?

I went for my 90-day report today (Wednesday at 2:45 pm). I was in and out in 15 minutes. Had all my photocopies already done. As reported earlier, it is mayhem there due to the many Asian migrants that need to be processed. The queue machine was switched off. There was about 20 people lined up behind the central counter. I went to the far right counter which was more "accessible" and just waited in line. Some had numbers, others didn't. I wasn't asked for a number. Glad I made it out of there alive. If you go there late in the day and all your papers are in order, you'll have your 90-day report processed fairly quickly. Anyone with anything more elaborate than a 90-day report due this month will obviously face longer waiting times.

In and out in 10 minutes late yesterday with the "new" bar codes added for me and er indoors. The place was absolutely heaving even after 4pm,crazy.

Parking was the problem, nowhere, ended up at the airport!

I just received my 90 day report confirmation slip by mail last week. Can anyone confirm that they have indeed discontinued the mail-in service? I would have thought they would have included a notice if that was true.

Driving back home on my motorcycle, I saw a cop handing out a ticket to a farang who had parked on a grassy stretch along the main road, where many other motorcycles had parked (just west of the immigration bureau). As for me, I parked outside at the airport central plaza at 12:30 pm, and yet I had to circle around 10 minutes before finding a parking spot.

You lucky dog. I just checked the tracking on mine again and the Thai Post website still says "item not found". Probably still sitting in that now infamous box. Wonder why they return some and not others? Oh wait, TIT.

A friend in Chiangmai just emailed me this week to confirm that his brother tried to mail a 90 days report but the Post Office he is using refused to accept the letter as they said immigration will not sign for the registered letter anymore.

He went there ( Immigration ) to do the 90 days himself and the officer confirmed it.

He said the officer had a big pile of letter in front of him waiting for the recipients to turn up.

I wonder why they do not return the documents to senders as they already have a pre-stamped envelope.

Because someone has to do it........it's called work albeit easy work.

TIT. This is Thailand, indeed. Is it posssible that they will reverse this policy?

It was my understanding that the policy was for people who lived far away. For the locals it was a courtesy.

edit

It just occurred to me that elektrified hasn't updated us on his application. Did they mail it back to him or did he go in?

Along with the tiny bit of extra work (the slips have to be done regardless), at the end of the day they a) want to actually see you to confirm you are still in the region, b.) to consistently remind you that you are nothing more than a 'guest', and c) because they can. We should think ourselves lucky they don't make us do this every week, or day even!

a) want to actually see you to confirm you are still in the region,

But they allow others to do 90 day reports for the person that needs it.

So "seeing" you is not really a requirement.

I think it could be a couple of things,

1- When they did it "their" way there was no time pressure on them,

the pressure was on the person waiting for the 90 day stamp.

With the mail in idea they get a daily box of mail & the pressure is now on them to complete it in time.

2- I hope it isn't this but I did wonder as I use a visa service myself.

That being, as the workers more than likely get a token of appreciation from these

visa services that walk straight up to the counter with their piles of paper, maybe

immigration hopes more will turn to these services?

From seeing the new found popularity of the services (visa sevice) and finding no real logical reason to stop the mail option, I strongly suspect that there is a financial connection between the services and imm. don't forget that Imm. is a branch of the police so corruption is endemic.

Some good points, but I suspect that a fair number of people did not do the paperwork right or did not include a self-addressed, stamped envelope and immigration just got fed up with it.

They told me about 6 months back when my return slip was lost in the post (the only time I didn't send the return envelope registered), that they were "fed up with people not including a registered return envelope." They said so many get lost in the post and then when people come back to find out the new date and get another slip, that it slowed things down there and furthermore something like 80% of people coming in didn't bring their passport with them. So many people thought that they will make a photocopy of the date they assigned -- not so, they start the process over.

It could be that they have a deal with the visa assist companies (surprise surprise), so accepting mail might reduce perks. However, I now use visa assist and I hope it continues for a long time. I'm happy to pay 1,000 baht not to go into that zoo for ANY reason except the 15 minutes annual renewal (via on-line appointment) + 45 minutes waiting for a receipt once a year. To those who always seem to do the 90 day thing in 5 minutes wink.png , like hanging around people watching, using it as a day out or even bothering to go to the PO, good luck to you, but personally, I'm staying out of there and away from the 90 day reporting for as long as it is possible. thumbsup.gif Bearing in mind that nothing is forever.

Why doesn't anyone call them corrupt, for charging 500 Baht for a free certificate of residence?

Do they charge 500 baht for the residency or is that just a bribe offered by the recipient to get a head in the line?

You spend more time on TV complaining about them than if you were to go in for the 90 day.

Try walking away with the certificate, without paying the 500 Baht smart arse!

I'm passing my opinion about that zoo if that's OK with you? I know you like to make it a day out, but I don't.

Just realised: You've never needed a COR because you've never bought anything that requires one, so it's understandable that you know nothing about them.

Not 90 days, but when I was doing mine last week the officer told me that the Myanmar workers get a 2 year work permit for THB 3600, is that the norm for work permits as I was under the impression that they were normally for one year?

Interesting that there is this anomaly as we can still only get one year extensions for the likes of "retirement visas".

Two years for WP is allowed under certain conditions and is no longer lock stepped with your extensions. Sorry for the embedded snapshot, the site has disabled copy ability. bia.co.th

In 2008, there were minor modifications to the Working of Aliens Act. The old law was 30 years old. A good news is that a foreigner can now get a work permit for a period of 2 years.

I guess the Mynamarans? are not foreigners as they appear to be doing all the work that is prohibited to foreigners. smile.png

Did a 90-day Report this morning, hoping it might be quiet ... Big Mistake !

The usual overflow-unofficial-parking next-doors & across-the-road was coned-off or closed-gated, so back to park at Central Airport.

Then a 45-minute queue for the three photocopies.

The machine in-the-corner was switched-off this time, so a 10-minute queue for a number-ticket at the central-counter, underneath the television.

Lastly a 1-hour wait, for the number to be called, before the usual efficient service. wai2.gif

On the plus side, met a friend, who'd also hoped it might be quiet today !

It must be hard for the Immigration-officers, coping with the continuing/expanding flood of customers.
