Some basic info for a nice stay in LOS (Land of Smile).

Thais are well known for their hospitality n tolerance and you should have no problem in adjusting as long you use common sense and show good manners.Basicly act as you would be at home , but a few do n don't are worth mentioning .

The Royal Family : everyone have a deeply held respect for the Monarchy n pls show respect as well .

Religion : when visit a temple pls dress neatly , do not wear sleeveless TShirts or shorts .Take off yr shoes before entering the chapel where the Buddha is kept .

If you want to visit a mosque , men should wear a hat n women should be well-covered n have a scarf over their hair .

Buddhist priest are forbidden to touch or be touched by a woman.Women need to give a offering first to a man who hands it to the monk or an offering is placed in front of a monk on a piece of saffron robe ,you can observe such offering every day all over Thailand in the early morning .

All Buddha images are regarded as sacred objects so don't climb up on one to take photo or pose.They should be treated with the utmost respect.

Social Customs : In BKK ,Thai social behaviour is much like that of other modern cities , but upcountry n amongst the old ,the old ways are still strong .

Thais great each other but pressing the palm together in a prayer like gesture , the "WAI".

Generally a younger person wais an older person ,who returns it.

Thai regard the head as the highest part n the feet as the lowest.So you should not pad people/kids on the head or point yr foot at somebody.

Public displays of affection is also restricted by holding hands .

Last but not least , never lose yr temper .

With a cool head n a smile you are more likely to get you what you want .
