Hi there

I'm travelling out to thailand, where I am starting a tour with intrepid in bangkok, going in a loop through Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, then back to Bangkok

I then have till the 20th of March to travel down to Singapore to catch a flight to Australia

I calculated that I will not be spending more than 30 days in Thailand, therefore I gather I do no need to get a tourist Visa

However will there be a problem with multiple entries?

Also, I may decide to extend my stay in Thailand whilst I am there (say by two weeks, a month) so I will be then staying for more than 30 days, so I gather I will have to get a visa. Would it be possible to get a visa when I return from my tour in Bangkok? Or would I need to get it before I go?

Thanks

Rob :o

You do not obtain a visa for the country you are in - so no you would not be able to obtain a visa after your arrive in Bangkok.

To travel to Thailand you may well need a visa to get on the aircraft as you must have confirmed outbound air tickets within 30 days of arrival and not sure you will have that. Otherwise you should not have a problem obtaining 30 day entry without visa stays during your travels to Thailand.

If you have to get a tourist visa why not get a two entry - use one at start of trip and the second on your return. That way your return can last 60 days and another 30 days if you extend in country.

Hi Rob. Just to confirm and clarify what Lop said.

You MUST have either a VISA or an onward AIR ticket within 30 days or the staff at Heathrow will NOT allow you to board your flight to Thailand. Onward land transport tickets do NOT count. I'm not sure how they will react to an email confirmation of an e-ticket from the likes of Air Asia.

Asian airlines are also most strict about these requirements.

You will have no problems at land borders with no onward travel arrangements it appears to be only airlines that implement the rules to the letter (something to do with them having to fly you home at their expense if you are refused entry) although you may be asked to demonstrate sufficient funds at the border crossing.
