george
Thaivisa HQ - a dream or reality Over the years I have had several proposals of thaivisa starting a "Thaivisa Head Quarters" in Bangkok. Nothing have materialized because my lack of time. IDEA: Something like Surin's "Farang Connection" but in Bangkok. Music cafe, Free Internet access, A travel agency desk, a little business centre etc etc. Fully stocked bar, great food. Well Air conditioned, somewhere in the heart of Bangkok. An electric cafe/bar/restaurant for our members and other expats and visitors. What I am looking for is an existing established bar/restaurant preferrable in Lower Sukhumvit. The venue could be co-branded "Thaivisa HQ" or similar. Here is the meeting place in Bangkok where you can meet friends, surf the net until late, drinking beer and have party time, having a bite and have fun. Great music from the quality PA, maybe something together with Radio Bangkok. Maybe a few pool tables. No ladies of the night, but nice hostesses (non take-away). Not overly classy, but definitively not low-end. I am not gonna run the place, I have no experience of running a bar/restaurant, so the current owner need to be the boss. But I am 100% confident that we could fill it up with help of the Thaivisa brand name, marketing etc. I realize that we have a very powerful marketing machine in place with the website, forum, newsletter etc etc. Everybody knows thaivisa.com! Does this place exist, or am I dreaming? Do we have any member running a place in Bangkok that would fit? This proposal is seriously meant. Please feel free to give your initial input in this thread, or PM me if you want to discuss details in private.

Cheeky Farang
Good idea G, but for sure the venue will have to understand the volume of the music needs to be at a comfortable level, ( Remember the 1st, when we could not even hear ourselves think let alone talk to each other ) So Please dont get a Thai to run the music
Tippaporn
Thaivisa HQ - a dream or reality<snip> Does this place exist, or am I dreaming? Do we have any member running a place in Bangkok that would fit? <snip> The place exists, but you're still dreaming right now. It's just waiting for you to make it real. The roads are there. Up to you to follow them or not. IMHumbleO. Is it a good dream? I think so. I've often fancied meeting some of the other members here on TV and that led me to regret not making it to TV's X-mas party. Pool? Bring it on. Given your flare for making TV what it is today, George, I think you could do well with this. Vote me in. Edit: Pool tournaments!! I'll be there! rio666uk
This would also be very handy for those of us members who are not expats and cannot otherwise attend TV meets. It would mean having somewhere to head to for a beer when we arrived in Thailand on our hols! Great Idea
simon43
Maybe I have the solution! Right now, my wife and I have moved to Phuket, because she is 5 months pregnant and we are building some holiday villas. But in Sukhumvit 1 Plaza, (ground-floor), we still own 2 bars which are 'surplus to requirements'. The small Revolution salsa bar and the larger Night Night Joop Joop bar. I'm thinking NNJJ might fit the bill. It has 2 large pool tables, a big-screen 'Super-Sports' TV, music etc etc. It is being run by my wife's sister and family, so has never really been big on the BG scene. (The ladyboys have gone and only family members run the bar). There is also an ADSL internet line, plus maps and guide-books. I'd be happy to rebrand this bar. Our bar licences are up for renewal this month, so we could even change the bar name to 'Thai-Visa' without any extra cost! George and others, do PM or comment re this. As I say, this bar is really surplus to our current needs, so we have no problem to rebrand or change it, if this will attract more customers Cheers - Simon

udon
Just make sure you get an expat with plenty of exp to run it G. I'm no friend of the mgr at the Office Bar on Soi 33 , but he is the best mgr I have seen in LOS. It's probably the most successful bar in soi 33 and the girls do not have to have "offs". Good luck with your idea.

Also believe from last visit that there is quite a good rooftop garden bar for the more sofisticufted of our members....(good view up Suk road) Couple of up to date Sun/Guardian/ Daily Sport newspapers and we could rival the likes of the FCC and dare I suggest even the British Club......a home from home.....worth a though ...Thai Visa International Jet Setters Private Members social club....... simon43
There is even a new guesthouse on the 3rd floor of this building. I've stayed there (just after Xmas) and it is quite ok, clean and new. I like the idea of a travel agent, but this would have to be a 3rd party. But they could have some space in the bar for a nominal (read VERY low) monthly rent. Scott
Good God, some people here can't even get along online. Imagine them in a bar after a few beers!! (Honestly, however, it sounds like a good idea).

terdsak_12
Sounds like a good plan. Some parking would be nice. I'd be in there for a few beers every now and then. I'd prefer this place to be away from the 'orrible beer bars, go-go scene areas, just round the corner or it would just be one bar amoung a million others. simon43
Suk 1 Plaza doesn't have it' own parking. But I used to park in the new Nana Square car-park (2 minutes away), or even in Pizzahut (next door), if I was buying a pizza
Ulysses G.
You could offer Lovely-Cutie an enormous salary to be the head-hostess. She is almost as famous as Thai-visa and quite a looker from what I hear.

TRIPxCORE
I really like the idea George. It would be nice for all of us to have a place to call our own. For it to be perfect though, in my mind, I would like to limit entrance into the place to only TV members and the friends or family they bring with them (ala British Club). I know this isn't possible and not conducive to making a profit but I like that idea. Keeping out the riff-raff is an important issue IMO.

Pudgimelon
Right....get the beer in .... Why just beer? EVERY bar in Thailand serves beer and whiskey, both of which I hate. Some nice vodkas, decent gins, a few rums, and some liquors, that would be nice (and beer and whiskey too, of course, for those who haven't gotten bored of them yet). No reason to have a mundane rail mixers on the bar. Heck, you could even have speciality shots on the menu, such as the "Flame War" or "Troll's bane" or "Annoying Avatar", etc.... ThaiPauly
Perhaps you will have to be selective on who you let in George. Maybee it should be "By Invitation only" for membership or maybee people should only use their real names when visiting the club to avoid confrontation. You yourself banned nametags at the TV Xmas party to stop members impersonating each other. I for one know that it can be to your detrement to reveal your TV nick and I would never do it again. great idea... but trickey bearing in mind the whole concept of TV Members being annonymous. Good Luck with it though. There will of course then be a TV Club clique should it come to something.
