July 6, 201214 yr PM'S BROTHER Thaksin gets US visa: Noppadon The Nation BANGKOK: -- Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has, for the past few months, sought and received visa to enter the United States, his legal adviser Noppadon Pattama said on Friday. "The granting of visa has no linkage to the Nasa request to use U-tapao air base for conducting weather research," he said. Noppadon said he did not make an earlier confirmation due to concern that the Democrats would politicise the visa issue. He did not comment whether Thaksin had immediate plans to travel to the US. -- The Nation 2012-07-06
July 6, 201214 yr If I am not mistaken, as Thaksin has not traveled/arrived in the US, he does not have a visa, contrary to what his legal beagle might say. .
July 6, 201214 yr Popular Post You get your USA visa before you travel there. If this is true, I am surprised, and let me make one thing perfectly clear, it's Bush's fault!

I wouldn't trust Noppadon to sweep the floor. Also, being Thaksin's legal advisor is like being head chef on the Titanic. Doesn't matter how wonderful the cooking is, that ship is still going down. July 6, 201214 yr So it took him several months to obtain a visa? Doesn't sound like the Americans were all that keen then!
July 6, 201214 yr Popular Post Seems strange the American autjorities let a criminal on the run into USA while Julian Assange is being hounded for telling the honest truth

July 6, 201214 yr Popular Post Seems strange the American autjorities let a criminal on the run into USA while Julian Assange is being hounded for telling the honest truth Don't tell me you are surprised. The good old ' do as we say, not as we do " policy of the US.
July 6, 201214 yr Popular Post It *could* be interesting. The US is one of only 14 countries that have extradition treaties with Thailand. Given the raft of charges still awaiting Our Man In Dubai upon his return to Thailand, I wonder if any civil service flunky will have the machismo to file a motion with the US for his extradition. Doubtful, eh. *edited out* Edited July 6, 201214 yr by Scott
July 6, 201214 yr Wait for Wikileaks to publish the related documents. Until then, enjoy the wild speculations you will be reading in the Thai press and on discussion forums. July 6, 201214 yr The last time he visited the U.S. something bad happened. If I were him, I would not go.
July 6, 201214 yr Doesn't he have some civil cases awaiting him there for screwing US businesses out of millions?
July 6, 201214 yr If he really does have a visa, I'd still be surprised if he actually does travel to the US as long as he is technically a fugitive.

Doubtful, eh. Come on! It is complete irrelevant what someone in Thailand fills. The USA is doing what they want, they did worse things than brake a extradition treaty with a country that no US president since Carter can even find on the map. Edited July 6, 201214 yr by Scott
July 6, 201214 yr The USA is a good place for Thaksin in my opinion........ Cuba would be better. Guantanamo.

July 6, 201214 yr Popular Post Well he has a visa prior to travel, Brits can do that, but the big thing!! is this..... visa or not when he arrives at his port of entry and immigration, he will still have to fill in a declaration that includes whether he has any criminal record. If he lies, he is in the sh*t, if he does not lie, he could be in the sh*t. Maybe his plan is to go to the US and indeed be extradited back to Thailand amid a mass of red shirt protest and when he arrives all is forgiven and the prodigal son returns
July 6, 201214 yr Might be some Realpolitik at play in the USA just in case Thaksin does get back into power.
July 6, 201214 yr I can't think of an easier way to arrest somebody. Knowing the US's stance on terrorism, this makes me wonder.

July 6, 201214 yr The last time he visited the U.S. something bad happened. If I were him, I would not go. He is lucky Mr Lee Harvey Ozwald is no longer with us IMO. I know what you mean but Oswald was just a fall-guy...a patsy...a red-herring set-up to attract attention away from the actual perpetrators who assassinated JFK simply because he wouldn't go along with the masters of war to Vietnam. It's all about money. Big money.
July 6, 201214 yr Might be some Realpolitik at play in the USA just in case Thaksin does get back into power. Why would he be so useful to the USA? What would be the interest of the USA if he gets back to power? The biggest risk is indeed to extradite him, and that upon his return, mass riots start.

But can she find it on the map, a real with all that strange countries with similar names...Taiwan, Thailand, Taipei, all full with yellow people who steal American jobs, or Arab terrorists or European monarchists. Some are friendly some not. It isn't easy for the land of the free home of the brave.
