Looking to book an Etihad flight BKK-London (Sep11-Oct10 for 35k). Deciding whether to book with Mox travel, but each time I call their no. the line doesn't connect and I can't get through. Don't feel so good about booking with a company if I can't even speak to anybody there. So , am looking at SaveFlights instead.

Any tips/advice on either of these companies ??

I have used Mox travel a few times, have always been impressed.

I book online with a card, print the e ticket & thats it.

I haven't used SaveFlights so cannot comment on them.

I did a test 2 years ago with agents vs. online booking sites. Can't remember the agent, but only 1 came close to the best deal I could get online. The prices were so close that I just went direct with the airlines. Even the best consolidator sites couldn't beat the price by going direct with the airlines. I will say though, I did find the best price by using the consolidator sites, then went to the airlines site and booked direct.

After being stuck in numerous far flung cities due to airline problems, I've found booking direct with the airline is the best way to go. Hard to call your agent when you're stuck in Beijing with a missed flight at some ungodly hour.

Another member has reported a great consolidator agent specializing in flights to/from Thailand. Can't remember, but I'll search for them.

Best recommendation: use as many sources as you can before purchasing.

Am just looking for flights in December, checked on the airlines website (AirFrance), then checked expedia, the airlines web quoted 32680, expedia quoted 31161, (prices in baht).

Look on the pinned topic about flights for expats, at the moment depending on your dates Qatar, Emirates, Lufthansa and Air France have deals on.

Yes, please let me know the consolidator. I think a lot of consolidators (Kayak, opodo, expedia) only offer cheaper prices if they start from Lon-BKK, whereas the BKK-Lon prices are about the same as agents/airlines.

I always double check btw agents and airlines prices too, in my case Mox Travel and SaveFlights are offering exact same prices as the airline websites

The difference is, that if I book on Eithad website I have to use my UK credit card, so there is a currency conversion and card fee which adds an extra 20-40GBP or so.

Whereas, if I book via Mox travel/Save Flights I can pay from my Thai bank account in Baht, therefore avoiding currency conversion and card fee.

That's my logic

31-32k is a great price for Dec !

Agree that 99% of the time booking direct is cheaper. Quite often if you sign up to their loyalty / frequent flyer memberships you usually get extra luggage allowance too. This is free with all airlines I think, best to check though.

I also find www.asiatravelmarket.com to be a good place to start checking prices. Not always the cheapest but good for a general idea before searching deeper.

I have used Jane at Saveflight for the last 8 years and so have friends I have recommended them to.

They are as competative as anyone else out there, but add "great service" into the equasion.

I never use anyone else

I used a local travel agent here in Thailand.

I missed a flight because I over slept and gave her a call she managed to get a non-refundable ticket rebooked on the same flight the next day for a minimal fee, had I booked direct with the airline I would have been out of luck.

On top she finds flights at the same price or cheaper than I can find myself, even AirAsia she gets me a little bit cheaper than booking online.

Its not always possible to book the flights I want (intra Europe) with her but when I need to go somewhere I email her date and destinations and she emails me back with 3-4 different itiniaries.
