I hope somebody can give my some advice.

I'm early, but then I know what I have to do.

My son (18 years and Dutch Nationality) has a ED Visa . (for 5 years now)

He is study on a High School in Mahasarakham.

This week he had his extension till April next year, the end of the school-year. (and this school)

Now we look forward what will be the next step , maybe university.

Then there will be gap of about 2 month ( the big Holiday)

What to do in this case ?

And what will happened if he decided not to go to school anymore and try to find work?

In the meantime he speaks fluently English/Thai/Dutch, and has a good knowledge of Chinese and Japanese

(I try to convince him to go on with his study )

If you need more information let me know

in the meantime thanks

He can easily obtain a tourist visa from any Consulate to cover 2-3 month period. He can look for work while on a tourist stay (just have to change when work is found). But do try and encourage him to continue his education as University is just about a requirement for any secure employment these days and is sure to pay off in the long run. And should be fun; as he can study his interests.

Thanks Lopburi, anyhow I wil Try to encourage him.

And in case of ...... , "you write to obtain a tourist visa from any consulate "

That means we can apply on the Laos Consulate in Khonkaen" ?

And it is not necessary to go to your own consulate?

Lopburi meant a consulate outside of Thailand, ie Laos There are no Thai consulates in Thailand, but Embassies and consulates in most countries in the world.... So you go to a Thai Goverment Embassy or consulate outside of Thailand.

As said a Thai Consulate needs to issue a Thai visa. For his location either Vientiane or Savannakhet could be used. Khon Kaen might be a good University choice if he does not want to move to Bangkok for study.

What is your visa or extension status? Your son can remain in Thailand on extensons until he is twenty as your dependent for most extensions of stay.

This sounds good smile.png

I have a retirement visa Non O (and married)

What I have to do?

I have to renew in November

I assume that you have an extension of stay for retirement not a visa.

All that should be needed other than the normal documents needed for your extension (other than income proof) is his birth certificate.

His extension would be dated the same as yours.

It would not hurt to check with immigration to be sure the local office does not have their own requirements.

(4) In the case of a child, adopted child or child of his/her

spouse, the said person must not be married, must be living with

the family, and must be less than 20 years of age;

Note requirement to be living with parent. Basically the same process you do for retirement but proof of relationship will be required and they may not allow ED visa (if not a non immigrant O can be obtained with copy of your passport/extension and relationship paperwork). As only allowed until age 20 it may be more trouble that it would be worth.

I would think an additional 2 years of stay without needing to go to school work and etc. would certainly be worth the effort to get the extension.

The post indicted work or school were the future path - both of which allow extension and in the case of work would not be allowed on dependent extension of stay. Two year would be a max time as already 18 and if near 19 then likely only one dependent extension would be available. As he appears to be using ED extensions now suspect immigration office will be expecting him to continue.

I have an extension of stay for retirement and also his birth certificate.

He is living with his father.

Next week I need to go to immigration in Khonkaen ( 90 days) and see what they say.

Anyhow I will encourage him to continue his education as University (as Lopburi says)

We will look to the university in Mahasarakham to, ( before he finish this school) and see what happened after he register

You should leave the extension as your dependent as an option if he does not start school immediately after finishing high school to fill in the 2 month gap you mentioned in your OP. Then change to an ED extension after he starts school or when his dependent extension runs out.

Thanks for the good advice ( and all the other members) My son understand also that he has to go on with is Language study, and for that he has a good opportunity in Mahasarakham

( less expensive then Bkk or KK)

It works here like this, how higher your score on the High school the less you pay on the University (they have a score of 4 , and he has for the moment 3.2 thumbsup.gif )

Greetings
