Horse Riding

Featured Replies

Every so often I get the notion to get back into horse riding.

A couple of years back i tried (unsuccessfully) to find the army base riding school at Mae Rim

(asked around the area and kept getting the damn tones wrong, so first try i gave up! Second try i did find what looked like a paddock and stable area, but no-one there officially to ask/help. There were a couple of local people who i asked and said that this area you cannot ride the horses and go to blah blah blah -lost in communication)

Does anyone know EXACTLY where the army base horse riding is? Is it easy to arrange with them about horse riding?

Or

Know of any reasonably priced schools?

Not looking for the pay-2000-baht riding tourist trek places. cool.png

I know there used to be riding facilities at Horizon Village, but when i checked some time back they had stopped doing this.

Thanks for any help!

I did not read the article but from the picture it confirmed what a friend of mine from Australia had found out. The horses were all small.

But they are defiantly horses for hire. Not sure if that was the place she went to. She has gone back to Australia now.

You can find the army base horse riding in the army, at Taksin camp on high way nr.107, open everyday.http://www.packsquadron.com/2524/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=98&Itemid=44

Well there are some stables and horse riding just around the corner from us in Nam Phrare. Perhaps a little difficult for you to get to. But just along the Cana Road a little. If of interest - Please PM me.

A friend of mine used to ride every day at the Army base. It took her a few days of being there with a friendly Thai to translate before she hooked up with someone, but once she was 'assigned' a horse, it was there every day for her to 'exercise.' She was riding full sized horses, not ponies, as the one she was assigned to was 15 hands..

Never could figure out what a hand was.

What is it equal to in metric or imperial? I work in both. And if you know what a stone is I would appreciate that also.

A 'hand' is 4 inches. A horse is measured from the ground to it's withers, the bony bit just under where the saddle horn would be.

I believe a 'stone' is 14 lbs. (But don't quote me on that.)

A stone is 14 pounds (roughly 2.2pounds to the kilo)
