ChAoS87
Has anyone heard of such expression of 'egg breaking' or 'yet to break a duck' in sales term. Take for example, this month I have yet to sell a unit, being in the real estate line. 'My egg have not crack' because its still 0. ไข่นยังไม่แตก Anyone shed some light, thanks Edited July 24, 2012 by soundman Fixed encoding to display Thai script
soundman
Never really heard it in sales terms however another term close in sound is;ไข้แตก (kai dairk)fever breaking ie. your fever has dissipated, and body temperature has returned to normal. patri
To break or crack the egg (ตีไข่แตก) is actually used in sale or sometimes in exam. situation due to the similarity btw. the shape of an egg and zero number ("0").
n00b
Doesn't "kaj dtaek" mean a peeled egg?
Peppy
Patri is correct. Googling for the terms "ไข่แตก" and "ขาย" gives plenty of examples.
GarryP
It is also very often used in sport. To break an/the egg means to get a score or on the scorecard.
DavidHouston
It is also very often used in sport. To break an/the egg means to get a score or on the scorecard. The Royal Institute's "Dictionary of New Words, Volume 1" agrees with GarryP: "ตีไข่แตก ก. เริ่มได้แต้ม คะแนน หรือประตูแรก หลังจากที่คู่แข่งขัน ได้คะแนนนำไปแล้ว . . ." verb. to begin to score; make points; or to score the first goal, after the competing team has already scored and has a lead . . .
