I am not sure how long you could expect TrueMove H to maintain your SIM. They are running out of numbers.

Interesting. The box the SIM came in has a "31 March 13" date on the sticker, which suggests the related phone number would be sacrosanct until then....

But, yeah, just buy another SIM (Although, as I stagger into my house, terminal with jet lag, would be nice to have a SIM ready to re-activate, after having topped-up on-line from overseas. The idea of having to use my TOT dial-up isn't very pleasant).

CAT My is currently post-paid only. I do not believe they have the infrastructure (back-office) to support pre-paid.

Probably right. Clicking on their "prepay" link on their webpage, you get "Coming soon." Yeah, right.

I believe that is an "activate by" date, not sure what you mean by "sacrosanct"?

Nobody has ever accused TrueMove as being a well-managed company. ;)

You may be able to get a post-paid TrueMove H account and then just suspend it during your time outside Thailand?

Obviously they're not going to reuse that phone number on another SIM until after 31 March 2013 -- if that SIM has never been activated.

But, yeah, if activated, then allowed to expire -- who knows in the realm of phone number shortages.

I did this with CAT. When I knew I'd be gone for a long time, it was worth the traipse to the CAT office -- both to shut-off, then, again, to re-activate. Why I couldn't do by phone, I don't know (had to even re-fill out paperwork to re-activate).

Would True have an easier drill, I dunno. But, keeping an unopened SIM package on the shelf -- with a shelf life of, per above, 31 March 2013 (8 months hence) seems to cover all bases -- as the chance that that number would be recycled seems nil.

Before your 30 day cycle is finished you have to make sure there is enough credit on the simcard, as True only tries to renew once, if not enough credit your package simply gets cancelled and you have to resubscribe as per above...

So, if I'm out of the country for 90 days, or whatever, the account without enough credit simply lapses. Then, I re-enter Thailand and, using the same SIM, just pretend this is the first it's ever been used -- and with my True credit pot reloaded, just start over?

4ever, what aircard are you using with your CAT MY account? (Presumably, any aircard that talks 850MHZ, like my D-Link DWM-156, would work with the MY SIM, i.e., no proprietary aircard required?)

Your first [MY] bill is pro-rated as they bill from the 1st to the 31st (or last day) of each month. Afterwards, 631 baht per month.

So, just like my CAT CDMA account today -- a monthly bill, whether service is used or not. Sounds like the prepay True method is best for those of us frequently on the road.

i have a thread review on the mifi device i used. zte mf 62. not carrier-specific. just pop in the sim card, set the apn profile (same as truemove h), and if you use auto-connect, you're good to go.

but yes, any 850mhz utms/hpsa/3g enabled smartphone or aircard should be able to pickup true/dtac 3g sim service where available. at worst, a new apn profile needs to be created.

tip: if you keep getting 2g service in a known 3g area, try to "force" 3g/wcdma only in the connection card advanced settings.

cat allows temporary suspensions of service. i understand up to 6 months. but you must go into an office to request suspension. i never needed this, as everywhere i go had cdma and truemove h. i would only do suspension if i was gone out of country for over 3 weeks. when i come back in, you'd have to reactivate all over again.

yes, it would be nice to do soft suspensions by phone, but TIT

^^ The Truemove h promotion seems to be 50% off their two smaller 'starter' volume-based internet packages 150MB and 1GB for the first 3 months. Still better than nothing and it is great to test out their internet without having to outlay too much cash. I wonder if there are other 50% promotions floating around there? Maybe someone is bold enough to test out ''matching" SMS/USSD signup codes to see if the discount would apply to one of the larger packages?

......

On the attaches picture you can see the available packages (only in Thai of course), and in the red square I marked you can see the content to sms to true to get the wanted package.

........

They seem to have a new plan that mirrors the volume-based plan. No english, but I'm guessing these plans do not auto-renew? I don't see the difference between V1 and M1 (they both use volume) except you don't seem to get any after-usage fair use. Perhaps with the M series it is easier to just re-topup the volume vs V series is more designed for a strict monthly subscription? M series is "30 days" package vs V series is monthly auto-renew.

I clicked on the tos and of course the english translation was again unavailable. Google translate seems accurate enough. A couple of key distinctions:

- It seems like they do make a specific reference to intentional throttling BitTorrent or downloading/uploading large files. I have seen on myCat where I was suddenly throttled for downloading (using http, not bittorrent) a larger file using internet download manager (maybe 100+MB file?).

- They do seem to enforce the 3 hr (180 minute) connection timeout rule. You must reconnect every 3 hours to continue using service. This must be to prevent unattended continuous use?

.

Thanks

4evermaat for this post.

I didn't have success looking for the information you provided. I learned while bicycling this morning my monthly internet package had expired and figured I'd just let it charge me an hourly rate while I was out. AT 6:33 a.m. I got an sms that i had a a current usage charge of ฿20 and then 14 minutes later another message that it was now ฿50. I guess they can go up quickly. The Truemove office was closed so I needed to get the number so sign up again for the package I use.

Thanks again.

For me the TrueMove H 3G aircard don't work at all: I live in a remote village, no landlines, so this mobile internet connection seemed to be a fine solution to my internet connection troubles.

I bought the usb stick - 1500 Baht - and the 5 GB package - 1000 Baht -, but after less then two weeks the speed is tumbling down to around 10 kbps, not even enough to see a few seconds of a Youtube video.

When I called TrueMove, they told me my 5 GB package was already used. But in this less then two weeks I visited not more then a few online newspapers and a few video's on YouTube. Nothing special and not very long.

I am very dissapointed in this Truemover H 3G and I have a feeling someone is steeling money from me.

No more TreuMove for me!!!

That seems a bit drastic. Try a different tack. Try a day pack for 53 baht to see how you get on datawise. That will give you an idea of how much data that you use on a daily basis, without laying out 899 plus VAT for the 5GB package. 53 baht gives you 150MB of data which is then slowed down to 128kbps for that day.. My connection software shows me how much I'm using, to help to prevent any mistakes by the provider.

Thought I would share my experience today as this thread helped me. This post is mostly for those in rural areas.

Been using AIS GPRS unlimited packages for the last 5 years in rural Surin. I had to position my phone on the top floor to get a top speed of 30 KBps (Kilo Bites per second) Today I searched the networks to see whats out there on my phone and {TRUE H/ CAT 3G} showed up in the list of choices. I guess its WCDMA 850 out in the rural areas.

Went to a 7-11 store (outside of Surin city) and asked for a True H sim card, and he pulled out a tray from behind the counter. You can add money to the card like you do AIS. Just buy true money cards at any phone shop, or ask the cashier at a convenience store and she will ask for your phone number. Amazing down link speed on True H - 7 mbps to Bangkok and 2 mbps to California, also about 1 mbps to St. Petersburg, Russia, 2mbps to Japan -all in the afternoon Thai time from isaan during a weekday. Wish I would have switched last year. I have so much internet I have no idea what to do with myself.lol

If only True Visions was as easy :-)
