Hi folks

I wonder if someone can help me.Since a knee operation in 1995 my doctor in the US has been prescribing percocet (oxycodone 5/325) for the regular pain which the knee still gives me.I can no longer go back to the US due to other health reasons and have had no joy in trying to get the same script. in thailand. The docs here on phuket will give me morphine but this gives me nausea and constipation something awful, and just does not get the pain like the percocet did.

The docs have told me that percocet is not available in thailand so what i need to know is, where could i get?I could travel to anywhere in asia, maybe even further, short hops are Ok,cant do long haul.

Thanks in advance for any info, advice ect.bah.gifsick.gifermm.gif

Oxycodeine is a top level drug here so the penalties for possession are very very high.....death if enough.

As a doctor or hospital cannot prescribe it here the fact you want it for medical purposes will make no difference.

If you have it and are caught your knee will be the least of your problems.

oxycodone is not available in Thailand, there is no registered brand of it.

Tylenol with codeine / paracetemol with codeine is available and would be the closest thing, I am surprised they went to morphine rather than prescribing this. Does not come in any long acting formulation, though. The paracetemol + codeine versions are locally made and less expensive than the tylenol + codeine.

Can only be obtained from a hospital pharmacy on doctor prescription. I suggest you go back to the doctor who prescribed the morphine, tell him it is making you constipated and nauseous and ask about para + codeine as an alternative.

Do not try to get an opiate except by prescription, these are strictly controlled drugs in Thailand and penalties are severe, and the fact that you have a medical reason will not count for anything if you do not have a prescription for it.

It may be that the OP has pain which is being treated with Perocet. Not great in the long term but it happens and it is not fair to label him as an addict (though he possiby has a degree of physical addiction) just because of this.

It may be the OP needs to find a good pain specialist. He may have other options to control the pain. I know I have found using Gavapentin or its newer variants prescribed by my Australian pain specialist effective in at least mittigating my amputation pain with probably less side effects than most narcotic medicines. These work by more or less filtering out the sharp intense pain pulses. I am not saying it is the solution for the OP but just that in the last 15 years medicine has changed.

A consultation with a pain specialist is indeed worthwhile if you can. Unfortunately I do not know of any in Phuket, but there are some in Bkk if you get up there.

Non-narcotic drugs like gabapentin, Lyrica, tricyclics etc do indeed help in pain management., Even when they do not completely eliminate the need for opiates they will often reduce the amount and frequency required.

Came across this site based on The Royal Decree on Narcotics 1979 and shows oxycodone as a Type 2 Narcotics. Doesn't sound that simple to bring in and an error somewhere along the red tape line could have consequences it would appear.

Under Restrictions:

Import/Export/Possession

Strictly prohibited. Permission may be granted for medical purposes

Limited quantities may be allowed for personal use and medical treatment. Letter from family health professional is required.

In most cases, mind-altering drugs type 2,3,and 4 can be import/export/ in possession in Thailand with a letter from concerned health professional or family doctor. Also, certain types of narcotics and mind-altering drugs can be allowed into Thailand, but only with permission from concerned authority in Thailand. If you feel that you need to bring narcotics into Thailand for medical purposes, you will need to obtain a written permission from the Narcotics Control Division, Food and Drug Administration, Tiwanon Rd. Muang District, Nonthaburi, 11000, tel. (66-2) 591-8469 (8470), fax (66-2) 591-8471. Ignoring this advice may result in grave consequences. It is your responsibility to act within the law. When contacting the Narcotics Control Division for import/export/possession of narcotics, you will need to provide the following information in English:

My wife needs Tylenol #4 and is running low. Every pharmacy we have been to suggests we go to the hospital. However a pharmacist did tell us that the hospital will only give out 30 at a time. In her case that would only be a one-week supply. Is there any truth to this?

We are in the Pattaya area, So if anybody knows any good hospitals that are willing to work with patients with chronic pain, please get back to me. Thank you
