Human Rights Watch says Burma forces failed to intervene as sectarian violence erupted in Arakan State in June and then opened fire on Muslim Rohingyas as they tried to save their burning homes. A 56-page report released on Wednesday by the New York-based rights group called for strong international reaction to “atrocities†committed during the bloody unrest between Arakanese Buddhists and Muslim Rohingya. The report said the conflict in Arakan State shows that “state-sponsored persecution and discrimination persist†in Burma.—AP
