PHUKET: The Phuket Regional Blood Center (PRBC) will host a special blood donation drive at Phuket Immigration Headquarters on August 9 to honor the 80th birthday of HM The Queen three days later.

PRBC Director Pornthip Rattajak told the Gazette her agency hopes the drive will help the center stock up its supply of rare Rhesus negative (Rh-) blood types that are far more common among Caucasians than Asians.

“Now we have more than 30 foreigners who have Rh-negative blood type registered with us. We normally set up a booth at Immigration every Monday for foreigners to donate,” said Ms Pornthip.

In the case of foreigners with Rh-negative blood types, they are asked to provide their address and contact information so that they can be contacted in emergency situations.

The clinic will run from 9am to 3pm at Phuket Immigration, located on Phuket Road near Saphan Hin.

August 2, Tesco Lotus Phuket, 2pm to 7pm

This makes so much sense for the happy holiday island as if you get stabbed you may get your own deposit back.

better to get that deposit back than the one at lolitas

Well if the tuk tuk mafia or the jet ski scammers don't manage to get their pound of flesh at least there is the immigration dept to catch you on the way out. If the blood type is rare among Asians there can't be much demand for it, unless it is tourists who are getting their blood spilled. Guess they dont want people dying in the hospitals as well as the streets.

Well there are a lot of motorbike accidents here involving tourists that don't know how to ride. Also my wife, who is Thai, is one of the rare Asians with Rh negative blood.

I don't know about you, but giving something that you own but can share and help bring life to fellow humans, is a Noble and correct thing to do!!

After many years of helping my local Bank's surplus i intend to start giving blood instead, as my sperm donation days have dried up.

"...can share and help bring life to fellow humans.." Noble principles brianP. Same as you, I donated blood for almost 20 years in all countries I was living in because, same as you, I felt to live with "fellow humans" who in turn see me as a "fellow human".

I know that many of you will disagree but as I am not seen and treated as a "fellow human" here in Phuket but rather just considered as a walking VISA who gets all the attention and the smiles just when is under process, it is the first time that I feel to give back what this "amazing" Country has been given to me in all these 10 years spent as a regular local married tax payer which means: NOTHING. No rights, just pay, pay and pay. Not to mention, the attitude of Phuket Immigration Officers to ask questions to my 8 years married wife like if we have just met yesterday in Soi Bangla.... No, sorry, my rH negative group O blood will never see a Thai needle as long as expats are not treated as human beings here.

Whilst I agree with much of what you say the chances are it is your fellow expats or foreign visitors who will suffer if everyone thought like you. I will continue with regular donations knowing that others are given a chance of life and I ask for nothing in return.

Rather the opposite of my experience with immigration or most Thai people I ever deal with. They are mostly all very helpful and friendly. But most every business I deal with I have been doing so for many years... I've heard the married O visa is a bit harder to get extensions on. Think about what your home country would want for a visa for her to live there... I know what it takes to get a visa for a Thai to the USA. Almost a year and money!

Yes ! I indeed think about what my wife gets in my own Country after living there 10 years: citizenship, she can buy land, she can have her own business, she can do any job she wants without restrictions, she is entitled to state pension once she retires and she has even the right to vote and being voted. True that the visa she applies for is hard to get but, once she got it, it’s really worth all the money of it in terms of rights she will aquire. How much you spend and how many hussle you go through for living here ? What rights do you get as a local regular married expat tax payer ? How are you seen in the eyes of locals in Phuket when you hang around ? How may “real” thai friends (not pint-buddies) beside your thai partner do you have ?

Have you ever applied for in house ADSL here ? In the Country where I am from, EVERYBODY can apply as long as they have the money to pay. In Phuket, you must have a NON IMMIGRANT otherwise forget about it ! I could give you tons of examples like that.

….. ah, and one more thing: she is seen and treated more as a human being by the time she is not subject to double price policies and restrictions only because of being a foreigner.

I have O negative blood, my blood type is known as the universal blood type, this is because O negative can be given to all other blood types, but the unfortunate thing is that it is rare, on Australia 15% of the population have it, here in Thailand 0.01% have it, that is the reason they want it here so badly. I know of three occasions when I have given blood and it has been used the same day to save the life of Thai who was involved in a road accident.

Either you choose to donate blood or you do not. But please do not engage in racist dialogue to justify your choices. This kind of extreme racist anti-Thai rhetoric is not welcome on Thaivisa and should give you an indication of why you have problems.

So, I have had enough of this trend and further such posts will result in poster suspension.
