[Myanmar] Suspended Journals Get Green Light To Resume Publication

Two Burmese weekly journals that were ordered suspended late last month have been given permission to resume publication within two weeks, according to a report by Reuters. Editors of the Burmese-language Voice Weekly and The Envoy said Burma’s censorship board had informed them that the ban would be lifted by Aug. 18. The move comes after a series of protests against continuing media restrictions, despite government promises to end decades of draconian controls. The two journals were shut down indefinitely for failing to submit articles to the censors for pre-publication scrutiny.
