I made a reservation two weeks ago with North Wheels for a pickup truck, we've got some serious moving to do between 11th and 13th. Unfortunately Northern Wheels just called with some excuse or other and now my reservation is no more, they've offered me a Honda City as a consolation prize!

Question is, where to rent a pickup truck in CM, I'm really loathe to go to Avis and I've never used any other company, any ideas or pointers, please?

Many thanks in advance.

Last year I rented a truck 3 times from Budget and because it was low season the charge was 1000 Baht a day with insurance and no excess. The truck was brand new.

Budget Chiang Mai, two bad experiences: won't be going back for a third......

We always use North Wheels, great service and easy to deal with. Had a pickup from them just the other week, I guess no consolation to the OP though, sorry. huh.png

Yes, I've had a bad experience with Budget previously, they wanted something like 4k a day for a Honda Jazz in peak season!

Anyway, back to the story. I just came back from seeing the manager at Northern Wheels and he has seen the sence of my argument, it is actually quite difficult to move furniture using the Honda City he proposed and he suggests I take a pickup truck instead!!! Low and behold a pickup truck has been conjoured out of somewhere and will be available for me to collect first thing tomorrow.

Thus far it looks as though Northern Wheels is preserving its repuation in the eyes of this customer, the proof will be seen at vehicle collection time tomorrow.

Always used Budget for pick-ups, though I once had the same thing happen where they called the evening before a big move!! This renting of vehicles and not getting the right one is all a bit suspect, particularly if one has done so online and paid-up. Happened a couple times at Journey CNX with visitors, too--a most underhand act: get em in by showing availability at booking then call up later and offer alternatives. Could simply be a case of overbooking or a mess up, but on the other hand it happens too frequently and some of our gracious hosts have been known to, ummm, TAKE THE PISS. Glad they capitulated at Northwheels... just stand your ground, that's the motto!
