Over the past few days I ve noticed a few changes to the appearance of my installation of suse 10.

Most apps now seem to have a "classic" look to them i.e drop down boxes shaded heavily and square instead of rounded. Also the start menu has been resized to twice the original size.

Went to boot this morning and now the desktop has completely disappeared, I get the start up music and the tip of the day shows along with the mouse but apart from that Ive just got a black screen where the desktop used to be.

Can anyone help as this is my work comp with lots of photos and dessigns data etc that I really dont want to lose

Did you try reinstalling your X server?

you have updated kde to 3.5, of course you had to reboot at least the Xserver but did you reboot right away after upgrade?

seems that you have an error in a module or you need to startx after boot, and check that you start in level 5
