Hi All

Simple question on retirement visa. I have been doing Marriage Non O for three years with multi-entry permit. I travel allot and have never stayed here longer than 90 days, so have never sent in the report of address to Immigration (Mai Sai). Last December instead of re-newing the Marriage Visa I did a retirement visa with the multi-entry permit. Still travel allot and will probably never be here for 90 consecutive days. Question is, do I still have to send in the 90 day address reports to Immigration even if I travel out of LOS before the 90 consecutive days, or does the travel outside the country reset the 90 day clock. Thanks in advance for your help.

You only have to report if you stay in country longer than 90 days. Each time you return the clock starts. Each time you leave the count ends. So just keep track of your time on each entry - computer alarm like in Outlook can be a great help that way.

Thanks for your help Lopburi. I use Outlook everyday for e-mail, contacts, calendar Etc. Great idea to use it also to keep track of days in country. Brilliant. Thanks again.

The alien permitted must notify of staying longer than 90 days , so if you leave country before the notified date , when you return to Thailand it will start counting 90 days again.

Hi, newed some good basic information, we set up a company, that brought the company house, set the bank account and pay the bills that come direct debit, all in Hua Hin. Now, what is the best way to get a long term visa or retirement visa, and the most simple, we can put the 800k into the bank. We are both British, can get a clean letter from the police as we live in the Middle East. My official retirement dats is due in 3 years, but we still need good advise.

Thanks :o

You don’t mention your age.

If you’re over 50, you can enter Thailand on a non-O visa, then with 800K Baht in the bank apply for annual extensions for purpose of retirement. No police report needed. The fact that somewhere abroad you still have a job does not prevent you from getting that visa.

You just will have to make sure that you are in Thailand every year during the time you need to apply for your annual extension, i.e. during the last 30 days before expiration of your permission to stay. Time your first application for extension accordingly!

"we" does not answer the question of husband and wife however. If not each will require 800k. And if they have a company they might want to get involved in running it and obtain a work permit but for that they would need a business type visa. If company is not active and just for avoiding the land ownership laws they may have a problem if this becomes too apparent.

Thanks for the info, am married, both British, your comments are noted, thanks, quite right, anout the company not being active, so would the retirement visa be the better way, and renew every year? Even is we are nnot full time in Thailand yet?

Thanks again

If you plan to spend enough time here it may be a good option but if you are just going to be here for a month or two at a time 30 day stay or tourist visas might be a better option rather than having to be here at the same date each year to extend your stay.

:D Thanks for the information Guys, helped a lot, particularly the point on the movement of the money through the bank, which i assume realy needs to be on a weekly basis. Regards

No. Not at all. During the periods you are in the country they would expect to see withdrawals. Certainly. But no reason why reasonable sized withdrawals could not be made on a monthly basis, particualrly if, as in your cases you, are making utility direct debits through your account.

But being here for a month or two during which time you withdraw say 600k will not likely justify an extension as the inference would be you are taking much of the money back out of the country.

However, I know people on annual extensions to their retirement visa who just winter here so the principle that you have to be retired here is not strictly enforced.

No reason why you couldn't get a retirement visa (for the pedants out there I know that it is not called hat but that is what it is) for the first year then at the end of that year see how long you have actually stayed here and what money has been withdrawn and then deicde whether to seek a years extension. If they say no -well then you go get tourist visas until you are ready to settle here (semi)permanently.

Hope I have confused you

:o:D Thanks guys, i think i am getting the jist of this,

Having a job abroad does preclude issue of a retirement visa as a condition of issue is that you provide evidence that you are actually retired but in practice it cannot be enforced.

Bad info.

You do not have to be "retired" or provide any proof that you are. It is just a matter of being 50 yo and having the money, which may or may not include a pension.
