August 15, 201213 yr I have read about child legitimization here. I am not confident of doing this myself, so I have contacted a lawyer. I do not have much time (max 3/4 days) and want to do it with as little hazzle/involvement from mother as possible (and fast) before she changes her mind of signing any papers. Here is a the reply from a wellknown lawyer company in Thailand : 2. Child Legitimization Registration - 26,000THB +7%VAT exclusive of government fee, legalization fee, and courier service fee (5,000THB) and the fees for authenticating your passport with the Danish Embassy in Bangkok, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand (MFA) payable to the Embassy and MFA directly. For this service fee, we will prepare the documents and assist at a local district office in Bangkok for the registration as well as assist at the Embassy to authenticate the passport of the foreign father; then, translate the authenticated passport into Thai and have the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand legalized. The procedure for this would take three day process (First day- to authenticate your passport, Second day - to legalize the Thai translation of the passport- Third day- to register the legitimization at the district office.) Laywer mention child support agreement as well - I don't see any need for that as I solely pay for everything (or do I need this also ?) Again lawyers answer : 1. Child Support Agreement - starting at 30,000THB +7%VAT; the fee will be higher if there is any inquiry to contact the mother or the lawyer of the mother. We will provide two versions of the agreement in Thai and English versions as well as arranging two witnesses for signing the agreement in our Bangkok office. What do you guys think about the "deal" Thank you !
August 15, 201213 yr Very expensive and I would not wish to hand over the bulk of the money until all the paperwork has been completed to your satisfaction. After my wife (Thai) and I trying to adopt her neice with her natural Mother and Father's permission and seeing the time delays and difficulties and beauracratic nonsense we had to go through (not successful after more than 6 months) I would be very very very surprised if you managed to do this in under a month even with a lawyer.
August 15, 201213 yr Author Ok - I see. Sorry to hear you had so nuch trouble. If I understand the lawyer correct it is a 3 day process. And I agree it sounds a bit expensive for what seems to be straight forward paperwork.
August 15, 201213 yr three days to get your passport legalized, I think the process of legalizing a child would take longer.
August 16, 201213 yr Shop around for a lawyer, this is an easy uncontested case so you don't need any top shot law firm. He doesn't have to do much, basically just write a request. But the process will take 2 or 3 months, depending on the court you must apply to. Child support is not needed in your situation, unless you plan to live with the child seperate form the mother. Then it could be a consideration, but more for her then for you as she would also need to provide support to the child.
August 16, 201213 yr Speak to Sebastion at Issarn lawyers. What ever you do, don 't go thru Thai lawyers,in my experience They will charge you a special Farang price and then, they will prove to you how incompetent they are.
