Dreambox Wifi

Featured Replies

is it possible to use a true hotspot for a dreambox to access the internet? the problem i can see is a way to put in the username and password and when you use a usb stick and wlan it only allows you to put a password in. (I do not want to use a bridge as I do not have one LOL)

any ideas?

Doubt it.

most of those public hotspots redirect your browser to a seperate page where you have to enter your credentials.

So anything else then browser based access won't work.

For applications like this many here use a device like the Tenda 150M, which is generally available here for 900 baht or less.

However, if I understand your application correctly, a TrueMove public WiFi Hotspot service may not offer a robust enough (always on, no need for reconfiguring, etc.) connection?

If you have a DM800 HD or above clone it is very easy with a TP_Link wifi usb - see http://openpli.org/wiki/E2Network

How do you enter the username and password to access a public WiFi hotspot? Note that this is different from any WiFi LAN security protocols, like WEP or WPA. Typically one would use a browser to access the service providers homepage.

Posters are missing the point..

Theres 2 issues here.. One is hooking up the dreambox to wifi.. Which is fairly easy using an AP or other wifi bridge.. I myself have 4 unused vonax boxes if anyone wants to make an offer as I moved to powerline products.

However the issue that the OP is stating is not only how to connect to wifi but how to input the password for the TOT wifi plan, which happens in a browser afterwards. This is not going to be possible with a CE device without a browser such as the DB.

FWIW, I have configured a Tenda 150M, using a notebook PC, and connected to a True WiFi public hotpot, then used the browser on the notebook to log in. One could then plug the Tenda in to a Dreambox and would have internet connectivity for some period of time. True WiFi hotspot service may have time limitations, which makes a DB application requiring constant internet, very challenging.

I confess I have not trialed this DB application, but have successfully set up several Tenda's for DB applications utilizing home WiFi networks

simply enter in the details as normal - see on the link above, scroll down the page and look at / for wifi - select the AP you want to connect to and enter the details as normal. The examples on that page were written by me and show real examples (True Wifi) here in Sukhumvit.on wifi direct from the DM800 HD
