I'm going to talk this one back. I'm defining femme boy based on a western understanding of butch vs. femme in gay culture (that does have nothing to do with trans issues). There may be a Thailand specific meaning that I'm not aware of. Sorry I shouldn't have commented on this one. Maybe in Thailand there is a connection of femboy to trans issues that I'm not aware of as that is so not my scene. I'd be interested to hear if there is.

Ok, my opinion: Femboys may or may not be young ladyboys in training. Some go on the get breasts, buttock implants, hair removal and the rest to be come ladyboys... Others stay effeminate and do the make up but not the transition.

As a matter of interest: also my experience only, I have noticed that most (not all) ladyboys that have no intention of having GRS prefer gay porn. If they are determined to go the full monty and get the chop, or take high does of hormones to the point where they are chemically neutered, they tend to prefer straight porn. Yes a generalisation. But one I have noticed.

Perhaps somewhere in the above there is an indication of how ladyboys them selves see their sexuality.

I knew a few drag queens in San Francisco and they were 100% GAY. They dressed as men part of the time and as women the rest of the time, but they were GAY and considered themselves to be so. I see no reason why most ladyboys are any different from their Western counterparts.

Couple things: There is no widely recognized concept of a third gender in the West, unlike many parts of Asia (including India, Philippines, etc). Therefore there is simply no place to fit in for acceptance and support, other than the gay scene. Keep in mind many parts of the USA are very repressive and un-free when it comes to personal freedoms such as sexuality. Try doing the ladyboy thing in the USA and going through college, or get a job at 7-Eleven or anywhere else: not an option. Therefore it becomes almost impossible to live a life being 'third gender'. (except for the ones who are truly convincing and can go for all the operations, but that's really not a majority anywhere in the world.) So many people who might become ladyboys in Thailand are pretty much forced to identify as gay, and live their lives dressing male most of the time, other than paticular gay events. (more commonly labelled as LGBT events these days for exactly this reason.)

Now, in places like Thailand it IS posible to live a normal life as a thid gender person, get a proper job and everything. There is no social conditioning to 'fit in' as either straight or gay. There is a degree of appreciation even, look at the annual beauty pageant that's broadcasted live on national TV. (Not saying there are no issues, but you know what I mean; it's feasible being a ladyboy in Thai society and being accepted.)

But don't take my word for it, there is plenty research on how Thai (and other Asian) transgender people identify themselves, and 'gay' just means something else here, and they aren't it. It doesn't even work to the point of being descriptive: you won't be understood referring to a ladyboy as a gay person. The only place where there is some overlap also within Thailand is between femboys and kathoeys; they're often referred to as kathoeys by Thais too, or 'Kathoey Phom San' (short-haired ladyboys).

Anyway, all of the above applies to the transgendered person herself, which is an interesting and necessary side-note to the topic at hand, which is how people attracted to ladyboys might self-identify.

In 100% of my experience lady boys are not even remotely turned on by women and straight men are not turned off by watching men have sex with women. So straight men watch m with f porn. My point was that Thaivisa has had a multitude of threads about lady boys in the past all to no real education of the members. But he has asked a new question! I doubt if it will be answered. In general no because the core of this is reflected in the internal psychology of the person with the gender identity issue. Gay people do NOT have gender identity issues!

Both have what some would describe as some kind of mental disorder. Because gays made such a fuss about this classification - many psychiatrists changed their view( because of politics) but many still view gays as psychologically imbalanced.
