Popular Post kcore
So, after reading the post on " best breakfast in CM, I just had to go one of my favorites. The Superman at Pun Pun fits the bill as one of the best! But, there is more to this post then the quality and portions of food the Pun Pun, for years has been offering. All meals come with a complimmetary and interesting story by Gonzo, a long time CM resident. Today was no different. As I endulged in eggs, potatoes, toast and Jam, sipping on my coffee, my heart was touched by what the Gonzo Man had to share today. He told me of his relationship with a 14 year old Thaiyai boy many years ago. How the boy looked over his fence and his face told the whole story. He was looking for work, to eat, to find shelter. The boy moved along before John could approach but, had his staff catch up with the youngster down the road. He was taking in by John, taught skills and was learning English. After about 6 months CM immigration raided his establishment and threw both in Jail. Something about hiring illegal Allen's. Regardless of the fact the boy was born on Thai soil. Any, after the dust settled, John was able to track the boy down in a reform school and visited him often. Bringing him a little money and food to help him get by. When they released the boy from reform school, instead of taking him back to his village, the officials called John and told him to come and pick him up. Lol. Today this boy is now married and has a family of his own. Thanks to people like John, who gave just a little, who cared just a little.....made a huge impact on this young mans life! My hat is off to you Sir. You are, what we lack so much of in this world.....one of the last really good guys!

hellodolly
That was a tender heart warming story. Wish there was a lot more of them. I am sure there is but people don't really talk much about them they just do. Only had a meal once at Pun Pun and I was so looking forward to one of his breakfast's. Unfortunately as I was reading the menu I noticed beans and wieners. used to love them when I was a kid just cut the wieners in to little pieces and mix them with beans out of a can. Could not let a child hood favorite slip away. It was mighty tasty. And the conversation was good. Live always off from there can you deliver. JeffreyMcCollum
the one time I tried Pun Pun the food and the stories were ample but the food a little over cooked and dry. Maybe the trick is to try the breakfast. Guess I will be back

millwall_fan
Pun Pun in Wat Suan Dok does delicious breakfasts, and lunches. not the same one as you probably know. Gonzo is one of Chiang Mai's nice guys. A few more like him and the world would be a better place. Never concerned with his own privations, Gonzo provides great food and great conversation for his friends and customers . DaamNaam: you should be made to travel from Wat Suan Dok on your hands and knees and see how long it takes you!!

Not ignorant, Pun Pun at Wat Suan Dok is the famous one. Pun Pun by the river is very popular with farang's.
theblether
I concur with the OP.........great food.......great stories.........excellent company..........and for me it was fascinating to see someone that had created there own business and lifestyle over many years in CM. I always have a twinge of jealousy when people talk about their experiences in CM 20 years ago.......never mind earlier.........as they must have seen a totally different CM from the one that is there now. I'll be back for another breakfast Gonzo.

Taking the Thai's + farang's as the customer base, it is more famous, but that's not putting you down at all. Jump in a Tuk Tuk or Songtel and ask for Ran Ahaan Pun Pun and see where you finish up.
