Iran says a lot of things, but has been bombarding multiple nations with ordinance.It is currently blocking passage of oil and gas on China destined tankers from Iraq, Qatar and Kuwait. The reality is that the UK and EU are importers of the Gulf oil and gas. They were content to rely on the US to protect their interests. Now they have an opportunity to take charge of their own destinies. The UK had its defense commitments to Bahrain, Cypress and others. They can make their presence known at anytime. Nothing is stopping them from changing transactions to yuan, although they don't want to assist China.
