Macafee Antivirus Hidden Files.

Featured Replies

I bought a laptop a year ago and the Macafee antivirus that came with it expires this week so I uninstalled it and downloaded AVG. But after I downloaded the AVG antivirus my computer started having problems. I used Revo uninstaller which normally finds all hidden files but sneaky Macafee must have stashed some somewhere well out the way.

Nothing would open and I couldn't open the system restore but I eventually managed to uninstall AVG. then tried again with Avast and the same thing happened. I finally opened the system restore by doing it in safe mode which has allowed me to uninstall Avast and it is working again now but I obviously don't have an antivirus now as don't want the same thing to happen again.

Any idea how I can remove all trace of the Macafee antivirus so I can install one without any issues?

Thanks in advance

Try searching the McAfee knowledgebase in their support. I haven't used McAfee for a while, but when I was using it they had information how to remove their files.

You must always run the McAfee Consumer Product Removal tool after you uninstall the program and then reboot before installing your new solution.

Don't let it be AVG.

Thank you kindly, you wouldn't happen to have a similar link for AVG would you, they might have some hidden files too which I'd like to remove before installing Avast again.

You should use Avast at this present stage, as it currently provides a better level of protection for malware detection in webpages.

ALWAYS uninstall your program in the add/remove programs tab. REBOOT when required (unless your busy doing something).

Next time follow the uninstall instructions if your not sure.

Why pay for anything when you can get the Microsoft Anti Virus for free. Also MS owns McAfee so they are very much leveraged software

INTeL bought McAfee in 2010. MS just steals other company's work and uses it until sued.
