Stay For Babies Birth

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am currently in Thailand on a visa exemption stamp and had intended to return to Australia to work until closer to my babies due date (Thai gf). However, the ever increasing belly has changed my mind and now I wish to stay here until the baby arrives. We are in the process of applying for a fiancé visa for Australia.

My question is, which is my best visa option to apply for?

In the last year I've had a double entry tourist visa with two extensions and two 30 day visa exemptions. I would like a visa for 6 months. I have a flight to KL already but I have read the embassy there can be a little difficult with double entry tourist visas.

Any suggestions other than double entry tourist visas?

Tourist visas are your only option.

If when the baby is born and you are on the Birth Certificate you are not legally the father as you are not married to the mother. If you are preparing the fiance visa for your GF you will need a visa for the child, if you are taking it with you.

When the baby is born we just have to update DIAC with the information and the baby is included under the fiancé visa. They won't do the required X-rays until after the birth anyway.

The baby will still require a Passport, question - Will Australia issue a passport to the child although the father and mother are not married?

The birth has to be registered with an Australian embassy. I think only the birth cert with authenticed English version is required.

Marriage is not required. The baby wil travel under Thai passport associated to fiancé visa but will inherit my Australian permanent residency (not sure how that bit works yet).

Well good luck, I would start looking into the residency as you are the father then it must be a doddle, but we all know that governments always put hurdles in the way.

Since you are not married a (double entry) tourist visa is your best option.

Currently the safest consulate to get the double-entry tourist visa appears to be the one in Savannakhet. You can take your chances with Kuala Lumpur, since you already have an airline ticket for that destination, but may get only a single-entry visa.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
