New Mercedes

Featured Replies

That is one unusual looking joystick...

Joystick controls work for video games, aircraft and large front end loaders but they do not need the precision required for car steering.

I wonder what Mercedes think the benefit is?

I can still see the right foot trying to go thru the firewall in an emergency stop. If the joy stick was central to the driver how long would it be before you could train yourself to stop using it as a support in normal cornering etc, in the pictured layout what gives you the lateral support on a bend.

At least in Thailand your left hand would still be free to use the phone or pick your nosebah.gif

I’m guessing it depends a lot on auto-pilot.

No reason that joystick steering would not work given the quality of servos and what not anymore.

does it make sense to discuss a car which won't be built for decades to come?

Don't really see a problem with discussing a 'concept' no matter what it might be.

I agree that it will be decades before it is 'on the road' in fact I can't ever see it working, too odd, but ask your 10 year old what he thinks and most likely he'll tell you it's a great idea and can't wait until he gets his drivers permit.

Then you'd better stop with these kind of posts here.
