Garmin Gps Purchased From Outside Of Thailand

Featured Replies

I own a Garmin 2565 purchased from Malaysia. Are there any other possibilities to load the TSM other than purchasing from ESRI? Do I need to load this onto the SD card as I was told that it would erase my existing maps otherwise.

Thanks in advance

Maps loaded to an SD card would not erase the internal Garmin drive maps. ESRI are the best maps available, there are others such as Rotweiler All Thailand and Garmin Navigator South East Asia NT maps.

I see the acronyms TSM and ESRI used on this forum as synonyms for the same map. In other words, when you buy a TSM map, you are buying an ESRI map. There are, of course, other GPS navigation maps for Thailand also available from other producers and sold in retail outlets.

ESRI is the name of one company that produces maps for GPS navigation; TSM is used for the Thailand street map produced by ESRI, but ESRI itself does not seem to use this acronym (and this meaning of TSM has not yet made it into the dictionary of acronymfinder.com)

It can get a bit confusing, sometimes, particularly for members who have not yet become accustomed to ThaiVisa's inofficial and undocumented accumulation of newly-coined acronyms.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I understand that there are a couple of websites to download the Thai maps but unfortunately, these are all in Thai language. Would you have any links to English websites?

Cheers

ESRI (GPSsociety), Rotweiler and Garmin maps, websites, are all in English on the internet. Do you need to change languages? Are you looking for the main website or trying to download a pirated edition?

I don't know if it would be considered a pirated edition but MalsingMaps for eg (which is the provider for Garmin maps Malaysia) has maps on their official website which is free. To me, this means that it's not a pirated edition as MalsingMaps even appears on the Garmin box. I guess I'm looking for something similar for Thailand as I think it's a rip off to have to pay Thb2,000 for a one off map and I don't particularly fancy buying another GPS unit since I already have one.

So short answer is probably yes, looking for a free version (if I said pirated, my post would probably get deleted).

Yes, it would seem that way. Thanks for all your help and responses.

Someone can feel free to correct me if I am wrong. I think the original price for the ESRI Thailand map was 17,000 baht. If I remember correctly, the price came down to 13,000 when I first bought it.

I mention this because 2,000 baht is a bargain compared to back then. It is a much better map than the Garmin SE Asia map and much cheaper.

noeman.org and/or Youtube have good tutorials re: adding maps to Garmin units.

gpsunderground.com may also have some things you are looking for?

AFAIK the ESRI map is offered for THB 6300 (Th, My, Sg and Indonesia)

I managed to obtain the Thailand Street Map V 12.0 for only THB 500; just have to go back to the shop in case an update is released.

On my GPS there already was a complete version of the European maps installed and the Thai map was just added.

In Thailand I turn off the European map and in Europe I turn on the European map and turn off the Thai map.

That's the South East Asia map.

The latest TSM is the v12.1.

Ok, just checked: Thailand StreetMap V12.01 NT [ENG]

I think many of us have TSM v. 12.01 from Nov. 2011, there was a 'point' release in April, 2012 taking the rev. to 12.1. Yes, it is confusing. ;)

TSM v12.1 is indeed the latest. Running well on my Kenwood car system, Nuvi 200, Nokia E71 and iPhone.

Running on the iPhone? Is this the app that's available from the Apple iTunes store?

I've two versions on my iPhone, Gweiloman. The one available in the iTunes Store which uses the CN Thailand NT 2012.10-NAVTEQ map and a modified Garmin version that allows installing the Thailand StreetMap V12.1 NT.

I reported about the differences in the thread below.
