Japan’s Yamaha Motor Co. plans to establish a company to sell motorcycles in Burma, according to a report by the Yomiuri Shimbun. The move will make it the Japanese motorbike manufacturer to set up operations in the Southeast Asian country since international sanctions were relaxed in the wake of reforms initiated last year. The company believes that demand for its vehicles will be strong in the country, as the Asian Development Bank predicts that it will become a middle-income country by 2013, with per capita income of US $2,000 to $3,000.
