Dual Routers, Cable And Adsl ?

Featured Replies

As I'm going to setup a small office and the area has both cable TV and TOT service, I was thinking about going for 2 subscriptions, one cable one adsl.

Does anyone know if a single router can be used for that, including load balancing and failover if one connection drops??

Second, I guess I can use 2 separate modem devices and uplink them to a switch on my network.

How to achieve the failover/load balancing in the switch +dual uplink scenario?

Is it possible? I've never done it before.

Thank you for your help!

You'll probably end up with 2 modems, one for each connection, both connected to a multi-wan router. I use a Draytek 2930n which has built-in load balancing. Other high end options come from Peplink. More multi wan options coming available constantly.

If both connections are ADSL then you can also look for multi wan ADSL routers. Draytek offers these also AFAIK.

Bad news is that these types of products not so easy to source inside LOS. When you do find them expect to pay silly prices compared to US or EU.

You can try milrotik rb750 or 751 works very well. Mikrotik is a router so you will need to set the adsl and cable modem devices into modem mode.

There are providers in BKK who do Cable Modems ?

solution with two modems make sense. the tv company will likely supply you with a modem. Than take a load balancing router and combine the lines.

I have a Cisco RV042 (dual wan, load balancing) router that I'm not using anymore. I previously used it with both a TOT and a TRUE ADSL connection. However at my new office I can only get TRUE.

If you make a fair offer you can have it along with a couple of Cisco/Linksys ADSL modems which were used with it.

Cheers

I have one here in North America that I was thinking about bringing over, but it would be useless unless there are ISPs that provide internet over coaxial cable.

hence the OPS opening sentence.

so which providers in BKK do internet over coax ?

I had ADSL when I lived there from TOT, had no idea Cable Internet was available.
