Price of sleeping tablets

Featured Replies

For a long time already I suffer from sleeping disorders, as in I wake up many times a night, and actually never have a solid sleep.

I have tried natural sleeping aids like 12mg Melatonin, but they don't have any effect.

Sleeping tablets like Diazepam work perfect, and I sleep until the alarm goes off, as intended. I have no side effects from them.

I had 8 tablets of them left, which actually were expired for 15 YEARS already, and I have taken them with good results in the last 6 months.

So now I have the option to buy some similar stuff OTC at probably 500 baht a strip of 10, or go in the queue for several hours at the local hospital, in the hope I get them subscribed.

So the question is if the price difference between prescription drugs OTC and subscription based is worth to waste all morning at a hospital.

Anyone here who get them from the government hospital and can share the price? I'm talking about Diazepam or whatever they are called these days.

Or can someone suggest a legit OTC drug that is more or less guaranteed to work? Melatonin doesn't work at all.

2mg Clonazepam are 350 for 10 in a blister pack at clinics who will sell them to you.

Prices have risen quite a bit since selling them requires prescription normally.

Generic valium blue 10mg are much less but very dubious.

I'm aware of the price of those, but this was the actual question.

Magnesium supplement has made a huge difference in my sleep cycle. Before supplementing, I'd wake up 2X, at least, for a P, or for no reason, within a 6 hr or less time period.

Now, 400mg daily (3X 133mg ~8hr apart), and I get 6 - 8 hrs of peaceful sleep. I take the Citrate version (NOW foods), which also helped eliminate constipation, and do not have any diarrhea issues, as common side effect for some.

Diazapam is cheap if you can get a Thai hospital or government clinic to give it to you. Private hospital will jack the price up.

Hydroxyzine 25mg works as well. Ditto on Magnesium.

Reference to Magnesium. ~400mg is RDA

What the total mg count, and is it spaced out during the day, or taken all at once ?

Also what brand, and if tested by 3rd party to ensure proper labeling. I only buy NOW food supplements, and only from iHerb, as simply too many fakes and or, don't supply the mg on the label.

My Multi Vic only has 75mg / 19% RDA.

Forgot he brand since they are now finished, but ordered them from Iherb, and took them as directed on the label

Well they speak Thai in Thailand.

Maybe you need to pay for a private hospital if you want to be catered to?

Side note most hospitals and Doctors are very reluctant to prescribe benzos.

I would have thought that in a major tourist destination they would have some people who understand English, at least they have an option, for English please press 9.

Look into this COMBINATION before bed --

Magnesium Glycinate

It's very important to choose the right kind of magnesium and a brand that is all magnesium and not full of fillers.

Experiment with dose. Powder that is 100 percent is available. Dissolve in hot water.

L-Theonate (NOT L- Threonate).

Apigenin (or alternatively drink hot chamomille tea)

OP has tried to cut coffee after noon ? cut organges, tea or booze after a certain time ?

I know that if I eat to many onions in my dinner dish, it does keep me from falling asleep.

But of course, we are all different etc etc...

Only drink coffee at breakfast.

I have no problem falling asleep, but wake up after a few hours, on and off.

I go out once or twice a week, and when I have consumed alcohol I have a sound sleep.

And garlic.

Trazadone 50 mg does the job once or twive a month

Go to psychiatric govt hospital. I used to do that. About 250 baht for 3 months supply.

These are very effective - but 2mg is strong.

Father in Law has some prescribed & he gives them to me - which helps with sleep when I'm struggling to catch up after jet-lag / a few too many late nights etc and I want a 're-set'.

But - care has to be taken not to become habitually 'addicted' or habit forming because the sleep is deep. Reportedly they don't give REM sleep or the full sleep cycle which is needed.

(Snapping the 2mg tablet in half - and only taking half does the trick)

Thus: I am wondering what clinic would sell them directly ? - I thought these were heavily controlled in Thailand and available with a prescription.

Sale and purchase of benzos OTC is illegal in Thsiland.

They are controlled substances.

With reason as highly addictive.

Have you thought about how exercise can significantly enhance your sleep quality?

I don't know if it's true, but there are some theories that before the industrial revolution, people slept in 2 phases (ie biphasic sleep), not all night straight.

If you have a tiring job and/or you exercise a lot, the body may be tired enough to sleep all night. But otherwise, maybe it's being made into a serious "disorder" when it may not have to be.

If you're retired and you didn't sleep all night, you can easily catch up on your sleep by taking a nap in the middle of the day.

Just a thought before wasting tons of money on sleeping pills and getting too stressed out about it.

Clonazepam and diazepam are (very) long acting benzos. They still act at least during the whole of the next day. Bromazepam or alprazolam (xanax) on the other hand have a suitable half-life to be used as sleeping-pills.

By the way, why not try out lamborexant? It's a new type of non-addictive, no-tolerance sleeping pill. It works on an entirely different principle than benzos or Z-drugs. Its half-life is still on the side, but at least you won't develop an addiction to benzos. An addiction to benzos is as nightmarish as an addition to opiates. It is patented and expensive though, no generics.

Just because you have not noticed side effects yet, it doesn't mean there is no risk.

The problem with sleeping pills is that you will need to take them forever and ever and ever.

And maybe at some point you will need medications for other health issues. Then you need to be careful mixing it with other medications.

If you had read the OP you would know that the 8 tablets I had left were consumed over a period of 6 months, so hardly take them every day.

I only take one when I can't keep it up anymore, as I notice i fall asleep behind the wheel or in front of my PC during the day.

Oh, yeah behind the wheel is a problem ...

Ok, sorry no I usually just skim posts. I don't cling to every single word.

Lorazepam 1 mg another option. They are cheap even at private hospitals. Seeing the doctor is expensive.

As others said, though, Daizepam has a longer efficacy life (36 hours or something like that) whereas Lorazepam is like 12 hours.

Both are addictive of course if you take them every night for an extended period - then you need taper off. Very dangerous to just stop if you become dependent. Usually Diazepam is the drug used to help get you off Lorazepam. So maybe better to start with Diazepam.

Another option is Trazadone 50 (used off-label for sleep aid). Look it up.
