I find myself having to carry my old Nokia with the AIS SIM in it. My Android phone has the Truemove-H SIM in it. There are many places out here in the boonies that I can't receive or make calls with the smart phone.

Android gives us the option to choose 2G, 3G or automatic selection. The 3G is spotty at best and selecting automatic or 2G only shows no signal at all.

Is anyone else facing this problem?

Make sure you have data roaming on!

True-h uses both their new network ( what used to be Hutch) and their old network.

Not sure on coverage, but supposed to be pretty extensive.

I looked at that setting and it is off. I turned it on and got a warning that I could incur significant roaming charges. Would that warning apply to only International service and none for within Thailand?

Does the TrueMove H SIM provide coverage/service when installed in the Nokia unit? Does the AIS SIM provide coverage when installed in the smartphone?

Not every provider has 100% GSM or even 3G coverage.

Many, many people complain about TrueMove H re: coverage, call completion, SMS, call quality, etc.

The AIS 2G SIM works fine in the smart phone. The 2G Dtac SIM also works fine in the smart phone. I did put the Truemove-H SIM in the Nokia to see if the 3G would work, it didn't, but I didn't try to make any calls.

The E52 Nokia appears to be 900 and 2100 for 3G.

That would explain why 3G don't work on the E52 (a 900Mhz 3G phone) since True uses 850Mhz 3G. DTAC also uses 850Mhz 3G. AIS uses 900Mhz 3G. But 2G SIM (voice) should would work on any phone since almost all phones now days can handle all the 2G frequencies.

Did it look like you had any GSM service with the TrueMove H SIM in the Nokia phone? The point of this is to determine if you have TrueMove H coverage, with the TrueMove H SIM in the known good Nokia phone. This test isn't so much about 3G but rather if you have TrueMove H coverage in your locale.

Without a lot more information, presented in a bit more of clear and concise manner, my best guess is that you have marginal TrueMove H coverage.

I put the Truemove-H SIM card in the Nokia and can make and receive calls. The signal isn't the best. The 3G signal in the Android phone is much stronger than the Nokia signal.

I honestly can't follow your posts. Very, very confusing. You can't compare signal strength, based on "bars", across different phones.

All I can figure out from your random posts is that the TrueMove H SIM works fine, for voice and 2G data, in the Nokia handset. However when you put the TrueMove H SIM in your Android phone it doesn't work as well. But yes, it does get 3G, I guess. And you seem to get decent GSM coverage with AIS and DTAC in both phones, but no 3G?

I guess it is possible you are bouncing between a TrueMove and TrueMove H cell, but you'd have to use a program like OpenSignalMaps to get some clarity. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.staircase3.opensignal&hl=en

I'd infer that TrueMove H has limited coverage in your area. What do neighbors say? What works for them? Always better to ask someone nearby rather than somebody hundreds of kilometeres away.

Most of the locals use AIS because Dtac still has a few dead spots. Until recently True nor Truemove-H had any signal in this area.

I took my Android phone to two of my friend's houses. They both live in different directions from where I live. Both were eager to get 3G but neither had a signal and in fact I couldn't even make phone calls from either location.

My one friend was teasing me about my politically connected Thai friend who insisted that he have 3G service at his home. This politician is not a friend of mine and I don't even know him but if he is the reason I have coverage, I thank him. Another friend does have coverage but he is about fifteen kilometers from where I live and he lives along highway 201.
