Older Mercedes 300Td Turbo Diesel -Auto Trans , Any Tweaks Or Upgrades Worth Doing ?

I as thinking of getting a Mercedes 300TD turbo diesel wagon with auto trans

are there any tweaks or add ons for better performance or miles per gallon (yes a Yank)

They are cheap here and get great mileage compared to my V8 petrol Chevy van
