I need to get a multiple-entry Non-Immigrant O (for volunteering) for myself and family.

I'm already in Thailand and don't want to travel too far if I don't have to.

Does anyone know the closest place to get a multiple-entry visa for the purpose of volunteering? I've seen a lot of info on Non-Immigrant O (thai wife) but I'm not sure if that will apply to my situation.

Its far more easier to get a One Year Multiple Entry "0" Visa at a Thai Consulate/Embassy in your own country.

In the U.S.A. the current fee is $200.

Thailand is becoming a bit sticky on "O" visas. One of the Criteria is to have a bank account at a Thai Bank. I woul d suggest either

Bangkok International Bank here in Thailand or Kasikorn Bank both have international representation; at least in the U.S.A.

I you do not have a Bank Account, open a Joint Account with your Thai Girlfriend and then proceed to take her off the Account.

I suspect you will only get a single non-O, which you can extend when you have a work permit at immigration. Consulates, especially in the region, don't like to issue multiples. But for non-O visa based on volunteering it is hard to tell, a there are not many reports regarding this. However, I suspect that having already applied for a work permit and be able to show the wp3 form will help your situation.

Haven't heard of any country issuing such visas except the home country, so sorry.

One reason is, that the Immigration wants to be sure you are still allowed to go back (and not to jail) to your home country, the other reason I guess is a tit-for-tat of the Immigration versus the restrictive issuing of visas for Thais to Western countries.

That is based on retirement, the OP is asking about based on volunteering in a neighbouring country.

Possibly the easiest and quickest place to get such a visa is in Penang, I got mine in Phnom Penh, bit of a hassle. Others get them in Veintienne. I doubt they'll give you multiple entry, just a 3 month single entry extendable once you have a work permit. You'll need a supporting letter of invitation from your organisation and I had to show proof of supporting funds as you'll be a volunteer. Ensure the organisation you are dealing with supports you with the paperwork. As for the rest of your family, I'm not sure how it works but they may not be elligable and come under the 3 month tourist visa run system, on this point I'm not sure.
