anon467367354 Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 why "may be charged with manslaughter"? he admitted he did it. leaving a cop or anybody else for dead is deplorable and should be dealt with like any other murder charge. 1
Woodsie888 Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Did the CCTV show the alleged smoke obscuring vision? The CCTV will probably show the alleged smoke happened after the impact as a result of damage to the Radiator and A/C condenser and the consequent leaking of coolant etc over the hot motor/exhaust. All the more reason for the driver to stop. 1
jerrysteve Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 This thing looks like poop, smells like poop, acts like poop and most certainly is POOP 2
Popular Post robblok Posted September 5, 2012 Popular Post Posted September 5, 2012 Yeah, and poor and downtrodden drivers always stop and remain at the scene. But there's not much feeling of resentment towards those folks, eh? Just as much resentment, driving on after an accident makes it worse no matter who does it. But as a rule there is more resentment towards people with money as they often bribe themselves out of it. So when you expect this you will resent them more. 4
fredKroket Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Well, this topic made the evening news cycle in the US. Grandson of Red Bull founder arrested for hit and run, killing local police officer. They even covered the fact that the BiB attempted to cover up the incident. Not good. http://www.nytimes.c...n-thailand.html http://www.dailymail...nt-Ferrari.html There has there been a spike in Ferrari related crashes in Asia lately, topped by today's incident in Thailand. There was the recent incident in Singapore which has caused a backlash against wealthy foreigners there. The accident was caused by a wealthy Chinese investor in Singapore that ran a red light, hitting a taxi broadside and killing 3 people. It appears that those with wealth feel they are entitled to drive as they wish with little to no repercussions. That is until they kill innocent bystanders. http://www.bloomberg...apore-poll.html The entire thing was caught on video. Tragic
Chalard Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Anuchai denied that police tried to help Worrayuth by testing his blood alcohol level in the afternoon although the accident happened early in the morning. He said the test was conducted later in the day because investigators conducted several tests, including collecting DNA samples and fingerprints inside the Ferrari car. Shocking statement. Do they really think people are that stupid? If the kid had been drinking a lot the night before, there would still be alcohol in the blood system in the afternoon anyway. A Pathologist can easily determine what the blood alcohol was at the time of the accident. Interesting times ahead!!! Better get Porntip on the case!!!
chantsurfer Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 In the OP, "Chalerm said a fatal accident may be unavoidable" is one of the 5 2IC to Yinluck or is the farther of this guy who dragged the copper.
TallGuyJohninBKK Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 In the photo accompanying the OP in this thread, what are the odd markings on the inside of the guy's arm at the elbow??? More broadly, I'd like to think justice will be done. But considering this IS Thailand, I'd be betting my money that this guy never serves a single day in jail based on any future sentencing... BTW, now I realize, the above OP article makes absolutely NO mention of the guy's custody status... Is he in jail overnight? Did he get released on bail? Is he back at home comfortably sleeping in his cozy bed??? 1
Chalard Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 He will probably end up pleading guilty to a lesser version of man-slaughter. Most likely a 3 year suspended sentence, 200 - 400 hours of community work, make merit once per year for three years, and make compensation with the family of the deceased. How do I know? This exact scenario happened to a business aquaintance of mine. Drunk, drove his Benz into a motorcycle, killed the driver, drove off, sobered up and handed himself into the police station the next day. This scenario is a little different (a little bit more high profile presumably).!!! The cops followed the killer to his house right there & then.!!! Anyway, only time will tell.!!!
Jim walker Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I think we all know the outcome of the trial and we all know what the judges ruthless verdict will be all a forgone conclusion, the verdict and sentence is probably being typed up right now as we read this post after all we are in Thailand possibly a fault with the Ferrari launch control made him drive on I am sure there will be a good shady excuse for the accident before he starts his few hours community service. Time will tell we shall just have to be patient

Probably there to stop it being cut & pasted (pirated) into an article for elsewhere or whatever.
Card Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 1 possible outcome: 1. The culprit gets convicted for manslaughter because witnesses withdrew their testimony and the CC camera clips were lost or were inconclusive - pays a fine (the amount is irrelevant to someone like that), a very short period in in prison and massive compensation to the victims family. Everybody is happy and we don't hear any more about it. 1
sunshine51 Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Every time I read in the paper or watch on TV that some politico's kid or the politico or some insanely rich Thai's kid or the Thai him/herself is involved or gets arrested for a criminal offense I just think back to the mid 90's and the O. J. Simpson "Murder" trial....money talks.

Sydebolle Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 One way would be to broadcast the news as they trickle in and - depending on the outcome - switch to another drink. Something which works in more grown-up, educated societies. Looking at the spoilt brat's face I see no emotion, regret, sorrow or anything else. His dad/grandpa looks more concerned and I think its the loss of some bodily features rather than the financial impact which goes quite likely unfelt! 1
pacovl46 Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 This article is so full of contradictions it's unbelievable. First it's 50-60 meters that he dragged him along then it's 200. Then they have video footage of him crashing into the rear of the cop then it's no camera at the crash site. Who's proofreading these articles???

BangkokHank Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 By simply inserting a space in the right place and dropping in an apostrophe, a good lawyer will easily be able to get the manslaughter charge reduced to the lesser charge of "man's laughter". In fact, I'm sure the culprit is already laughing at the idea of a rich man going to jail in Thailand, thereby justifying the charge of man's laughter. 1
NomadJoe Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 I can't imagine the numbers being tossed back and forth between the BIB and Woryuth's family/defense counsel. Certainly well into the millions of baht now that the story has been picked up by the international press.
katana Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 Yeah, and poor and downtrodden drivers always stop and remain at the scene. But there's not much feeling of resentment towards those folks, eh? I would guess a lot of resentment , whoever does it. However, it's presumably compounded when a hiso buys his/her way out of it and evades justice. ...BTW, now I realize, the above OP article makes absolutely NO mention of the guy's custody status... Is he in jail overnight? Did he get released on bail? Is he back at home comfortably sleeping in his cozy bed??? Last I read, he was out on 500,000 Baht bail.

You left out the most important bit..how much money went to the BIB or judges to get the light sentence. (This is not a tongue in cheek comment. This is how the legal system operates here.)
sysardman Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 By simply inserting a space in the right place and dropping in an apostrophe, a good lawyer will easily be able to get the manslaughter charge reduced to the lesser charge of "man's laughter". Well I'm no bible basher but I think if this little sh*t gets off scot-free and continues to drive the way it appears he does then the next thing he rear ends may be a lot bigger than him and the outcome could well be very different - God moves in mysterious ways
damo Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 His only sentence will be financial, but what does he care? he didn't work for it... So many people responsible here, not just the 27 year old driver. Who issued his drivers licence, I'm sure that was paid for like most other Thai drivers. What about Thai society which socially justifies fleeing the scene of a car accident to protect themselves without bothering to offer first aid or call for help. What about law enforcement or the judicial system which loves pricks like this. So sad, RIP to the victim and his family. May true justice be served.
Popular Post thenervoussurgeon Posted September 5, 2012 Popular Post Posted September 5, 2012 I dont know why we bother commenting on this ,we all know the outcome, money talks bullshit walks. 3
theanimaster Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) Hmmm... isn't it a well-known fact that the Redbull people are yellow-shirt sympathisers? One plus one is... Edited September 5, 2012 by theanimaster
NomadJoe Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 This story made it to CNBC front page today. http://www.cnbc.com/id/48895859 . Chalerm seems to have it sized up correctly based on the news. In that it became a "premeditated" murder, attempted murder or certainly manslaughter at the very least - once he decided to keep driving with the motorcycle and the human being attached to the Ferrari and banging around on the asphalt for 3 football fields of city road. This not counting attempting to have a company driver take the fall and the police obstructing justice by shielding the real driver. For it to be premeditated murder he would have had to plan to kill the officer before he hit him.
tinfoilhat Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 However, Anuchai said, feeds from a security camera showed Worrayuth was speeding toward Ekkamai, and crashed directly into the rear of the victim's motorcycle. Experts had yet to establish the estimated speed of the Ferrari. There was no security camera at the crash site, he said, only clips of the officer riding past the camera and of the speeding Ferrari. well, which is it? The nations reporting is almost more heinous than the crime, google translate does not make a good copy editor.
Wavefloater Posted September 5, 2012 Posted September 5, 2012 (edited) I confidently cast my vote in the direction that this will be swept under the rug and nobody involved will actually have to face any real consequences -- police or the obscenely rich monster who did this. The family of this piece of garbage will pay the cop's family a very healthy sum of money. That will make everything better and the press will keep it out of the media. People should boycott all Redbull company products if true justice is not served. Finally, condolences to the family of the police officer that was murdered. Edited September 5, 2012 by Wavefloater 1
