Thailand seeks China's help to crack down on fake goods

BANGKOK: -- The Thai Intellectual Property Department will join forces with the Customs Department in China's Yunnan province to crack down on counterfeit goods being brought across the border.

This pact has been drawn up to solve the widespread trade in counterfeit products in China, Thailand and the rest of the Asean region. The Customs Department in Yunnan will closely inspect all products heading for Thailand, especially since many fake products such as CDs, clothes, leather goods and handbags found in Thai markets originated in China.

Pajchima Tanasanti, director-general of the Intellectual Property Department, said China's customs department has been urged to inspect goods to see if they infringe any rights before exporting.

She added that Thailand needed China's help in blocking counterfeit products and seriously control the trade in illegal goods in foreign and local markets.

According to the Chinese customs department, a shipment of more than 10-million illegal CDs was seized last year. It also found fake garments, leather goods, handbags, and watches.

In order to boost its efficiency in controlling copyright violation, the department has called on Thailand to send details of trademarks and a list of counterfeit products that are usually imported from China.

Products that Thailand has asked for China to closely monitor are Solex locks and food products under the brand "Crisco" as they have problems with trademark violations in China.

Pajchima said trademark violation and counterfeit products from China had greatly affected Thai businesses. Fake goods from China can be freely bought in most markets and temple fairs across Thailand.

The department has also called on Thai businesses to register their trademark and copyright before entering the Chinese market, otherwise they could face the problem of copyright violations and suffer huge losses.

This article made my Monday Morning.......simply Hilarious.......two crooked nations seeking to do good. Oh Pleeze! The only difference between the two is that Thais are not the least innovative nor creative but simply are good copiers whereas the Chinese can sometimes be innovative at leasts.

Is there an election in the air? All these politicians and senior "public servants" making absurd statements in the media lately must have a reason other than wanting the media light.

Thailand asks Burma for help in stopping drugs entering the country, malaysia to help keep the rifraff out of the south, and now its China who is being asked to help control copied goods.

Clean up the mess you have at home, namely those purchasing the goods and those building bombs, shooting people etc and you will take a giant step in solving your own problems. A direction to start may be, jail those who are raping the country internally, and using the ill gotten gains to finance the areas of concern.

I suspect Made In China Solex locks are better quality than those Made In Thailand - and cheaper.

It's not the Solex locks that the Thais are worried about. It's that the Chinese Rolex fakes seem to be outselling the Thai "Solex" watches with the numbers running counter clockwise. Perhaps the real reason for this move is to avoid having to train the local counterfeiters to count and write.

Counterfeit of thai goods? Why would anyone bother?

For those of you who are old enough to remember the good old times, anything "Made in Japan"

was considered cheap, shoddy and of inferior quality. I remember as a kid, in the 1950's for anything

from toys, pencils and what not, "Made in Great Britain" or "Made in Germany" was considered superior

quality.

Maybe a few decades from now, "Made in China" will be synonymous with quality, and no longer they

will have to resort to producing fakes and copies, and manufacturing and exporting of such goods will

shift to other countries like Burma or Laos.

Fakes will always be with us but the country of production will change.

Would just mean that the average Thai teenager will never be able to wear branded T shirts or listen to CDs like their western counterparts. Well it would if it actually happened! In reality I suspect that this is the kind of occasional anouncement that the government have to make to keep the imperial west from nagging them about the issue.

Frankly the "real producers of Fake Goods" are the big brand companies themselves who manufacture goods for pennies in Thailand and China and then sell them in the West at prices you would expect to pay if they were produced in those economies. It is well known that these companies now control the US government and are pretty much doing the same in the UK (they just have to be a little more cautious here as occasionally we still expose them) I wonder if News Corp and Barclays could have been humbled in the same way in the US. However even in the UK we are starting to lick the backsides of the Music giants concerned about protecting their empires. Empires which stifle more music and musicians than they promote!

Frankly I care as much about fake goods as I do about buying big brands for their name and, as far as, I am concerned they (the profit mad conglomorates) reap as they sow.

The masters of copy cat copying talk about calling the pot black, these people tried to claim the copy right to the japanese high speed train technology in 2010, when the japs let their technology out of Japan for the first time.
