PATTAYA: -- Roads flood as storms continue over the city.

City Hall has spent months ensuring that the drains of Pattaya City were clear and ready for the monsoon season and ,as a result, the majority of the city has been unaffected by the recent storms, but of course the rain has to go somewhere, and since it always flows downwards… Beach Road and the surrounding sois took it badly today.

Flooding in the areas from Royal garden Plaza all the way to Soi 2 caused severe traffic holdups and, at the same time, entertainment for visitors to the city, as waterfalls developed along the sea walls, where rainwater finally his the beach.

Roads and footpaths along the beach were under water, but only to the extent that it was inconvenient, and the rest of the city is holding its own against the elements.

However were we to endure a severe storm in the next 24 hours, the picture could well change as drainage is reported to be working to its maximum potential to cope.

The Pattaya beach road drainage system working over time a couple of days ago.... shortly after the photo was taken, the other pipes started gushing too.

Thanks for posting this.

Out of interest, where was your photo taken from? Were you more or less next to the Beer Garden?

That photo is from the walkway to the Pattaya Beer Garden. Easy to recognize the diamond styled red tiling. Never did notice the drainage pipes there before.

Yes, this was taken from the Pattaya Beer Garden. My favourite eatery in Pattaya although it can get quite noisy when all of those pipes are spewing water. Great views though.

Beer Garden? Hate to say this not "garden" there

Indeed, more like one open sewer! Look at the color of the water coming out of the pipes...!

I take it that in your country crystal clear water flows out of the drain pipes

Further on in the Pattaya103 article

Several experts tell us that rather than looking at drainage, we should look at the rapid expansion of the city as a whole, where builders have created a concrete mass without grassland for natural drainage. The result of several decades of mass building has taken away a lot of the potential for natural drainage and left the current city management with a huge challenge.

But it's the city management that control what the builders can or cannot concrete. So it's a self inflicted hereditary challenge caused in the main by corruption and greed.

I think he might have been wanting to add " and so close to pattaya's main beach" (Literally yards away from where people swim, jetski and play in the water)

That is just gross !

Fortunately most tourists don't come here to play in the water. And residents know better.
