Hi, I have an American friend who lives in Hua Hin. He pops down every now and then for a visit. He says that there they have a regular book exchange. People meet up and swap their reading matter between themselves. Anything similar happen here ? I have lots of books stuck in a couple of plastic boxes which could do with a new owner or two. Just a thought !

I see you get no response. Funny, you would think a lot of people are out there wanting books. I have tried to stir up something of similar interest in Phitsanulok. No takers. I tried with Kindle books on TV, little interest. I have a few friends with whom I exchange books by post, which is cheap. Where are the TV book readers? Or is everybody sitting at the concrete table in front of 7-Eleven drinking beer? (-:

There are bookshops all over the island where you can sell books, exchange, rent for a month in some cases.

better to get out there and have a look.

Why the bitchy comment about sitting outside 7/11? Sounds a bit unecessary tbh...especially if you are looking for a positive response.

I know there are plenty of bookshops around the island. If I didn't I would have asked where to find one. The idea was to meet and socialise at the same time as swapping some reading matter. it appears the forum members here don't do socialising too much. Not too worry. I will save them till I move.

There is a Carlisle bar in the nightly walking street market in Lamai, where book can be exchanged free of charge, would be polite to buy a beer though.wink.png

I think all are missing the point of OP this is a good idea so people can meet and swap a book or a story and say hello.

Actually Eric1949 is not missing the point, a lot of the regular customers at the Red Fox Bar that he is talking about, do talk about the books they have just read, and recommend ones that they liked.

They also say hello to newcomers.

It's not a book club by any means, but that wasn't what the OP was after.

Actually as the OP I can tell you that Eric1949 is missing the point totally. I know there are lots of secondhand bookstores all over the island. I also know of many bars I can go to like the one you are plugging and swap a book for a book whilst I partake in a beer. I can already do this without the need for others to join in.

The whole point of the exercise isn't simply to sell, swap, exchange books bit to do a little socialising whilst you do the same with fellow Farang who are after doing the same thing.

Now do you understand ?

I have lived and worked all over the world at years but have never lived in a place where the expats seem so anti expat as here.

I can see that you have been all over the world, your English grammer is appalling. Eric1949 is not plugging any bars, he is merely pointing out that you can have a free exchange system for books, and socialize at the same time

This is in relation to post #8. The system would not allow me to quote.

I think the OP's idea is a good one, maybe worth pursuing further at the TV party?

I am not sure if you should criticise another person's grammar Trashy, when your own spelling ability does leave something to be desired. whistling.gif

The TV party is a good place to get something like that off the ground as Yorkie has mentioned,

Why not go and trash else where.

The topic is about book exchange. It is not about members ability to be grammatically correct or excellent spellers or for that matter proficient in the English language.

Members from all over the world use the forum, English is not necessarily their first language.
