Smokie, drop the political philosophy. Yes, lets get rid of the Nanny State but how does that equate to sending them up the chimneys? Do you see the proletariat as fit and thriving in the current paradigm or simply unemployed and on welfare with little future? Read some of my rants, I despise sociopathic bankers and government protected capitalists more than most, both of whom are flourishing under the current system whether governments are left or right.

However that wasn't the query, it was do you believe that government should regulate every aspect of our life or we be more like the Thais and ignore it, not whether abuse of workers was an acceptable policy, maths is simple: no worker income, no spending, no economy. However that is a different topic not governed by the rules of this forum.

What gives you the idea that Thais give the finger to authority? I see it as the other way around! They follow strict social rules of governance...they just dont know how to drive ... that's different.

So you're saying rules are similarly rigid...simply applied in a different way?

The main difference between here and our countries of origin is how the laws and regulations are upheld.

In Thailand they're not upheld strictly like our own countries hence the Thai's do as they please most of the time,

although the laws and regulations aren't much different.

I bought the Mrs a vibrator and strap-on.

We'll have to see about that.

Pegging would be the pc description I guess.

What does she use the strap-on for?

I agree, everything is fine until things go well, once things go wrong one will start to blame the system and what not.

We live here in Thailand in a pretty free country by our own "progressive" fascist standards

Not sure what "progressive" fascist standards are.

We live here in Thailand. a country with a history of military coups, where the army will take over if the generals don't like the way the elected government is running things.

The laws here are pretty similar to those in the western word, the fact that there are more people willing to break the law does not necessarily make it a better place.

Also not a believer in the health and safety nonsense spouted by many.

Let common sense prevail.

I see.

I take it then you are in favour of construction sites where the workers ply their jobs without hardhats, proper footwear and harnesses so that the end result are daily gruesome injuries and deaths. Nice. These workers are usually Burmese labourers without any right of redress.

What happens when debris and material falls off the high rise construction, because proper safety cladding rules are not enforced? How can a passerby one use common sense when a chunk of debris falls 30 soreys?

No need for proper grounding of electrical wires. Common sense will protect people. That poor kid that was electrocuted last year in Patong had no idea there was an open electrical outlet in the water when he walked by. No amount of common sense would have protected him. A proper building code that had safety standards for electrical work would have though.

How about building automobiles with decent safety standards? Oh wait, the free market will decide. Right.

There is no point in pushing free market positions when there is no possibility of a free market. In Thailand. Iit is cartel, monopolies and predatory practices that prevail in Thailand.

I read in some western papers that western men need to be more in touch with their feminine side

I'm all in favour of touching the feminine side, the more often the better.

Probably because her husband is suffering from certain inefficiencies, plus a strap on will never be affected by brewers droop.

Are we are bunch of conditioned zombies

Yes, indeed.

And the funny thing is, many of us does not understand that the reason why most of us like it here, is because it is NOT as home.

But STILL so many of us wants Thailand to change to be exactly like home.

But if she straps it on, surely it will be used on A N Other?

OK, I submit, I was wrong, most foreigners here do miss the Nanny State, that in itself I suppose for better or worse tells a lot about our attitudes, and where we are going as a bureaucrat culture. I won't change my opinion as I don't feel the need for others to control and steer my life but can see it is one not shared by the majority. But there again perhaps we haven't really thought through the full implications of a Thai Nanny State and what would actually change...

I think the missus hammering the husband with a strap on pretty much sums up the metrosexual male, excellent personal example.
