Email Notifications: Links Broken?

Recommended Posts

I receive email notification on new forum topics.

I think the links within are totally broken. Here's an excerpt:

Topic: New Thai Spellings For 176 Loan Words ( webfact -- 48 minutes ago)

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?topic/588366-new-thai-spellings-for-176-loan-words/

[content skipped]

2012-10-02

The forum can be found here:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?forum/43-thai-language/

Both links seem to be broken. They must be spelled, correspondingly:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/588366-new-thai-spellings-for-176-loan-words/

and

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/forum/43-thai-language/

Am I missing something?

I knew I wasn't the only one. This has happened for several months now. Relatively speaking, it's a pretty easy fix.

http://www.thaivisa....es-broken-urls/

Also, the link should bring the user to the "unread" posts automatically. Prior to the major forum update, it did this and it made the most sense, because after a user has replied, only the posts that have not yet been read, but subscriber wishes to receive updates on would be the posts made since the last visit. NOT the beginning of the thread.

yes, the user can make an additional click on 'jump to latest unread' link, but that requires extra bandwidth and is an extra annoyance.

How possible that something so easy to fiix has not been fixed yet ?

Probably because the software supplier has many other fixes to incorporate in the next release.

What I do with these erroneous links is to click on them so that I get to the forum index page. Here is an example of a bad link:

ht tp://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?topic/540525-uk-pensions/

Then I double click on the word "index" in the address bar so that it is highlighted and then hit the delete key 6 times.

This changes the address to:

ht tp://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/540525-uk-pensions/

This gets me to the beginning of the correct forum topic.

Then I have to click on the "Go to first unread post" button and I'm there. Phew!

Of course, what the original link in the email should be is something like this:

ht tp://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/540525-uk-pensions/page__view__getnewpost
