As I said in an earlier posting (censored for some reason?) Burmese, any burmese?

The first I was told when I show the photo to several Thai Friends "Why the man on

photo from Myanmar?"

My question, if the suspect, as reported to the police and according to surveillance video,

was supposed to be around 30 years old, 170cm tall, "Pumpoi", "Dam" and Khun Thai is

this skinny, small, 23 year old burmese kid on the photo?

Check Sanook.com (หนุ่มไทยข่มขืนสาวอิสราเอล ฟูลมูนปาร์ตี้เกาะพะงัน)

Check: Thairat (Pharagraph 5)

Check: SuratThaniToday (หนุ่มไทยข่มขืนนักท่องเที่ยวอิสราเอล หลังร่วมงานฟูลมูนปาร์ตี้เกาะพะงัน)

Check: Manager Co Th

and several more ......

All clearly say: Khun Thai !!!!

Lets hope this man from Burma is the perpetrator of this terrible crime and not some easy suspect with little or non existent legal rights that the BIB picked up because they couldn't be arsed carrying out an in depth investigation of the crime and going after the real rapist.

sorry for the woman, but i tought everybody, men and women had military service and training for at least 2 years overthere to protect one self, family and country

Maybe unarmed combat training is less effective after a few of those DEET cocktails they sell to the backpackers and if you taken by surprise from behind. Anyway it seems like she did put up a fairly respectable struggle and both of them had injuries. I hope she recovers quickly without permanent physical effects. As for the psychological impact, that will be for keeps.

Unfortunately this is all too possible. You didn't mention the possibility that they might be trying to protect someone else, even a fellow cop, as appears to have been the case in the Kirsty Jones rape and murder. Since the victim is no longer here (who's to blame her?), it will be much easier to frame someone, if they want to. There are enough victims of police brutality around who have reported that confessing was the only way they could have remained alive also enough who simply disappeared.

All of you farang should realize that rape still makes national headlines here in Thailand. In your countries rape doesn't even make the local news because it is so common.

everyone comes on here showing their hatred of Thailand and demands that it starts emulating the oppressive regimes you lot come from.

Please get out of Thailand if you don't like it. Move back to the UK or USA where you can't even smoke a cigarette without being monitored by the police, and god help you if you step out of the smoking zone.

Rape is not a common crime in Thailand, nor is assault, it happens the same as everywhere in the world but Thailand is one of the safest countries in the world.

Andy, rape takes many forms and for you to say it is not common here in Thailand is naive. Sure Thai /Burmese man on Farang woman is not so common, but uncle or brother or cousin on Niece, sister or cousin is RAMPANT! I personally know three young ladies who were raped by a family member before age 13.

Rape is extremely common in Thailand, much more so than in Western countries. Much of it doesn't go reported. Why? Do you know how many female police investigators there are in police stations around the country? Hardly any. So female rape victims have to report their assaults to male investigators who invariably start from the premise that the victim "asked for it" and ask them lewd questions about their private lives. Often they either refuse to accept the complaint at all or the victims quickly decide to drop charges. I have also come across a number of Thai women who admitted privately to having been raped, all by someone they knew and one by a national politician. How many do think reported the crime? None.

How many girls get raped at those full moon parties and nothing is ever done. They are very dangerous place for young women yet I rarely see a warning.

so what, first it says RAPE ...second post says ... with an attempted rape on an Israeli woman ... does attempted not mean NO RAPE`? ok, he tried and deserved to be punished...always the bad foreigners from myanmar....

may be we should wait for the third post to come....before the myanmar bashing starts :)

Of the couple dozen of hill tribe women I know, nearly all of them were raped or date-raped by their mid-teens. More than 50% of hill tribe girls have babies before the girls are 20, and most of those wind up single moms, because the males run off in to the bushes. And in Thailand, it's accepted for the men to run off. There are zero legal repercussions.

When they got back to their g.h., they found all their packs were stolen. The British owner of the g.h. yelled at them, promising to f#ck them up if they told anyone about it, because he was afraid of the bad publicity for his little biz. Altogether, the girls were sorely glad to get to a decent place like Chiang Rai, and were able to chill out and enjoy the final two weeks of their vacation. If southern Thai beach resorts are not going downhill on a go-cart with no brakes, then it's something akin to that.

I know there is a like button but is there a BS button too?!

Methinks you possibly misunderstood the American expression 'to <deleted> someone up' It doesn't relate to rape. Instead it means to 'beat someone up' or 'get them in serious trouble'. If that's not the part of my post which you thought was BS, then what part of it was? the story was told to me first-hand by two young women who come from a part of the world (NW USA) where telling the truth is commonplace. Why would they lie about it - to gain sympathy from me?

I agree with andy66, People on this forum should look at there own country, the statistics in Thailand are no worse the many other places, Australia the " Safe Place" has stabbings and murders every day, in Melbourne the Vietnamese and Somalis are given a free ride and in the main are left to do there own thing! Sydney the Lebanese and Moslem Community the same, I consider Thailand as safe as anywhere in the world, if you are careful.

Maidu, the story sounds valid enough, just your conclusion

is a little bit over the top. One incident that you know of and than all of Southern Thailand.s beach resorts go down the drain? Still makes you wonder why people react strangely to your post?

Davo, how many more times do people on this board need to point out that the majority of crimes go unreported here in the LOS, for various reasons mentioned. Maybe start with reading all posts again from the beginning.

All the luck in the world to this woman. And if she bit this guy and fought him off, then more power to her for being so brave, and this will hopefully serve as an example for many more women; to be strong and brave in the eye of unfortunate violence.

With regards to the Full Moon Party, I was there last year. People go there and get pissed out of their minds, however it is disgusting worms who prey on intoxicated or even sober women to try and rape them. It is never, never, never the fault of the woman. Anyone who says it is is weak, stupid and needs a lobotomy

@midasthailand: Your post "In your countries rape doesn't even make the local news because it is so common". Regrettable rape occurs throughout the world. However is is a totally false statement regards the media., The local media will cover the arrest, trial and sentencing.

It's true that sexual assault crimes are not necessarily immediately splashed across the front page unless a murder has also been committed. The police are professional & quietly going about their job and not posing for the media. Naturally the media is sometimes requested to co-operate with police if the investigation is experiencing challenges. On the rare occasion, at the request of police, issue statements to mislead the primary suspect.

Western law enforcement agencies have made considerable investment in time and money in specialised training for police for sexual assault crimes. Most Western countries have a jury system and the police are not generally corrupt, unlike Thailand. The conviction rate in Western countries is high, not because a suspect was threatened or beaten, but based on evidence.

EDIT: I do realise it's not fair to compare Western and Thai practices for media, law enforcement & judicial systems , but couldn't let your post pass without commentsmile.png

@Maidu;

I met two young women, around 20, who were top rated athletes (one had a chance to be on the US winter olympic ski team).

Attending the full moon party while likely to face compulsory drug testing........?

I don't think that she bit him, if I recall rightly, he bit her, that's why she went to hospital

I was talking to my friendly policeman today. He was saying that the guy is Burmese and he definitely did it.

So there you have it. Case solved! whistling.gif

And who told him his police mates?

Case closed...

Because they don't call it "rape" when a family member, boyfriend, geek, or husband does it. It's also not usually "rape" if the girl is a prostitute and the police will try to push the girl to not go further.

I don't recall the exact figures, but there is a report out there of the number of Thai women who have been sexually assaulted, and those sexual assaulted by family members. I just remember being shocked at how high the number was.

news report is not correct! the truth is a maynmar man bit a chunk from HER lip (the victum), she wasin hospital in the morrning and due to fly out that evening, she is now back her country. Firslyt police in koh phangan want to keep it secret but a I know one of the people that has spoken with the lady , the man, and the police there, he called news from bkk and they followed it up which means the police have no choice but to do thier job and find the man.
