Sattahip Gets Stingy with Fresh Water Supply

SATTAHIP:--The Sattahip water company is resorting to trucking in fresh water for residents with chronic water shortages, especially in higher-elevation villages. The problem is that the water company has not been granted a permit to build another water plant, despite its repeated requests.

SATTAHIP – October 2, 2012 [PDN]; a press conference was held by Sattahip water company officials to explain the reasons behind chronic water shortages. Speaking to reporters was Mr. Paisarn Yeewah, senior manager of Universal Utility Co., Ltd. (UU), the company in charge of the Sattahip water supply system. Other company officials were Khun Inthranee Paholpholpayuhasena, the information manager; and Khun Prajak Amornkul, the senior employee of relation activity.

For many years, Sattahip residents have endured chronic water shortages. On some days, water from household taps would flow only at night, or not at all. The erratic water supply was especially acute at villages in high elevations.

Residents have been complaining continuously to the water supply company with no results. People have resorted to buying water from private companies, and they hope the added living expense is only temporary.

Currently Sattahip’s water company cannot produce enough clean water to meet the needs of its 20,300 water users. The problem is that the company’s repeated requests to expand production power has not been granted by the Region of Water Supply that has owned the water concession since 2009.
