I recently applied for a non O at Hull (late september) and got my passport back with visa stamp in just 3 days. I had informed them that I would be visiting Thailand late October so there was no need to rush on their part.

they are in a no win situation - if they issue too early, people complain they have wasted some of the visa time,

if they issue closer to the required date, people complain they are taking too long to issue as is this thread.

most people (i would think) applying for a multi entry require the full one year or even 15 months out of the visa, if its issued too soon this time is cut down

I always find going in person a few days before departure for multi entries is the safer bet. but i do only live an hour away, but with Birmingham and Liverpool as well as Hull, traveling in person is normally not that much of a distance

Simple fix to that would be a tick box to confirm quick or closer to travel date issue of visa, personally I think Hull issues are down to human error & perhaps backlog of less than simple applications.

Used Hull 8yrs ago but went to Birmingham as closer & does the same thing.

Nothing special about Hull, Birmingham & Liverpool do the same service these days ...

Try using Birmingham or Liverpool consulates. Service is good & does not have the usual backlog of penniless sex junkies & goby boiler room workers clogging the application process with poorly completed paperwork/evidence.

Hull ruined itself with its homemade type O visa rules & lapse attitude at supporting docs, result was virtually all farang caught on overstay, working illegally or pulled in for some offence had a current or originated on a Hull visa that had no real valid issue ...

I use Birmingham as closest to me should the need for personal visit arise & postal service is 48hrs max if forms & paperwork are up to scratch ...

A friend just had his Non Imm Visa from Birmingham refused due to being unable to provide sufficient evidence of funds.

Wherever you go the rules are getting stricter ( rightly so ) so be sure to have your paperwork in order.

My 'problems' have been, on both occasions a 2 week delay, in issuing the Visa, despite their claim to process them in 24 hours.

I am a Horse racing fan, and have been to the Prix de L'arc de Triomphe in Paris, which is this weekend.

Having my Passport 'tied' up in the Hull Consulate for 2 weeks, is unacceptable, if I had wanted to go to Paris.

Don't you have a ID Card?

For some reason having read this thread I feel the need to make a general comment, to remind folk perhaps, what an excellent service Hull provide.

Just used Hull for a single entry Non-Immigrant O visa. A personal visit, which I would always recommend, if you can manage it. I arrived 20 minutes early for my appointment with the relevant evidence and was in and out within 10mins. ( I know OP is refering to postal service)

Great service as always but then again to quote BuckBee perhaps its because I am not: "a penniless sex junkies & goby boiler room workers clogging the application process with poorly completed paperwork/evidence."biggrin.png

Would concur Hull service has been fine when I used them in the past but my experience with Birmingham has been the same. Have a colleague who uses Liverpool as local to him & he said service was good.

At end of day if paperwork done correct & evidence is as requested they all are about the same these days ...

The UK only flirted with ID Cards for a while.
The UK National Identity Card and the Identification Card for EEA (European economic area) nationals ceased to be valid legal documents on 21 January 2011.

A further warning: Hull has now stopped accepting card payments, so if you do not have the very latest application pack that makes this clear there will be a further delay while they contact you and wait for a cheque etc.

Also be warned that they can be quite difficult to contact. I tried phoning every 20 minutes or so between 2.00 pm and the office closing time last Friday,16 November, and never got beyond a recorded message asking me to call later. They seem to be under some pressure at the moment so It's probably a good idea to allow a couple of extra weeks just in case.

Can anyone confirm that no financial evidence is needed for getting a multi O based on marriage? Seems to be conflicting reports.

Thanks

I got one a few weeks back from BIRMINGHAM with no financials, married to a Thai. Hull now want financial info.
