Hello!

My mother-in-law is around 51 years old dont have the nationality. Her mother have the Thai ID Card (means thai nationality) and all of her sister and brother have the Thai ID card also (Thai Nationality). Reason is her parent is too busy to register for her 51 years ago.

My Father-in-law and My Wife also have the Thai Nationality.

We spent lofs of money to ask someone in the government and also Police to help my mother-in-law to get the Thai Nationality. But all of them after take the money and missing.

1) Is anyone know how to settle this problem? What department of thai government should I go to? Any NGO helping this problem?

2) What is the penalty for a person don't have the nationality but still stay in the Thailand? Fine?

Thanks for help on this problem.

Are you saying that her birth was not registered at the district office, ie she has no birth certificate?

From your description she has Thai nationality, but no immediate proof of her nationality, as she has no ID card.

How did she manage to live without an ID card all her life? ^-^

Plenty of people(hill-tribe) up north that have lived in Thailand for generations and not recognized as Thai citizen.

My wife had the same problem after having lived in the US for 32 years. ALL of her records here in Thailand had been lost or destroyed. What we ended up doing was a DNA test with her sister who had all her Thai ID to prove she was Thai.

I am not sure what department you would go to as my sister-in-law handled that for us.

Hardly the case if both parents and all siblings have ID cards.

A little more information is needed from the OP.

Was her birth registered? If yes then it would only require a trip to the Amphoe to have her put on a house book and get an ID card.

If not then it will probably just mean getting the village head and family members (as witnesses) together and going to Amphoe together to register her birth.

Fine for not getting an ID card at age 15 is 500 baht if I recall correctly.

I can recall my wife who was village head at the time going with a 37 year old lady who had never gotten an ID card. It took most of the day but she got her ID card.

Yes, she got no birth certificate. And I dont know where can do it in Bangkok. Is all the case like me can be done in Bangkok area.

Or the Amphoe of northeast part of Thailand will be more easier?

Thanks!

She will need to do it at the Amphoe where her mother and sister are registered which I assume is where she was born.

Was she born at home or at a hospital? The Hospital might still have a copy of her birth record which would make things a lot easier.
