What Sort Of Wife/girlfriend Is Yours?

Featured Replies

No its not an "was your wife a bar girl thread" far from it ,its just that the other day while talking to a guy he said that he has been married for about 10 years but that he was fed up as he and his wife rarely spoke as she could nor speak english well and he could not speak Thai.

judging by the number of men who converse with their partners in "Tinglish" it got me thinking how many men have little in common with their Thai partners? and live seperate lives. whats your take on this

my take is that i'm married since 33 years (to the same lady thumbsup.gif), most of the time we speak English but use also regularly German and French. she does not correct my two mother tongues French and German but since 35 (or 36?) years she is correcting my English grammar and pronunciation unsure.png

If she still can't speak English to him after 10 years perhaps its because she just doesn't want to!

Why is it the women's fault? Let me fix it for you:

If he still can't speak Thai to her after 10 years [and living in Thailand] perhaps it's because he just doesn't want to, is incapable or just plain lazy.

I was one of those guys who had a wife who spoke only a little English. The relation was a complete disaster for other reasons too. I swore never to have that problem again.

Now i got a wife that speaks good English, not perfect of course. She is a lot brighter as the last one (an other thing i learned get a girl that is not stupid but at least can think). She is like me active, not one of those girls that worries about her skin getting dark. Loves to go diving and snorkling with me when we have our holiday in the south. Can even handle some fishing in bungsamran.

Makes her own money, has her own friends (i like that i need my space). So she is independent from me. I don't like being joined at the hip like some.

I can't complain much about her but like in al relations there are problems. But much more good things then bad things.

Her mind is not too Thai, as in i have to provide for her. She does so with her own money contributes to the household (i pay more because i make more). If money goes to her family she pays it (birthdays ect excluded that is a mutual thing but she pays for the presents to my family too)

Not much to complain about all in all and im not always easy to live with.

The thing about the wives sounds like i had many.. but only 2 in my life so its not that bad.

what a lucky guy.....

My wife spoke little English when we first met, she learned as we went along as I did with Thai, am I fluent, no, is she in English,no but we communicate very well and alot more can be said with a glance and a smile or a look than can be said with any words.

Its not always about vocabulary its about attitude and body language too. This I feel has actually improved things too because we can communicate perfectly without saying a word at times. She and I have learned many other things about each other because of this.

Can we debate world politics, no, but day to day living and normal issues , no problem. She certainly has no problem making herself understood and neither do I, within the confines of our relationship we do just fine.

I find that to have a good relationship you do need to be able to communicate ,as we lived in the UK for many years i must admit my wifes english is far better than my thai ,we do tend to do a lot together ,but she has a small buisness which she can do from home mainly and also has a lot of rice fields which she pays others to manage via her sister who lives nearer the fields,so while not being entirely self supporting ,she does have some money of her own

The sort who is always right. :D

Mine shows up in my dreams when I hit the sack after a heavy Chang session outside of 7/11 but has long left when I wake up with a headache and dry mouth :(

I can relate to that. Nightmares is more like it. My off-and-on is a complicated relationship, but it seems to be getting a little more normal.

My wife speaks English and has a masters from the same university I have a degree from.

Do I win ?

Nope, unless she has authored a Hungarian-English phrasebook!

Well, well, well. In that case both of you not only win but must be perfect communicators: the model couple many readers will aspire to. On behalf of the TVF, many congratulations to you and your well-versed spouse! wink.png

I couldn't find any bars in Pattaya who sells a large Chang for the same price as 7 ermm.gif

What's the price difference, 10 baht? If I had to do my drinking outside a 7/11 to save 10 baht I'd think about living somewhere else. You could always buy your Chang wholesale by the carton and maybe save another 5 baht a bottle, and drink at home, in a park or on the beach.

Cheapest place I found there is a 8 baht price difference but there are no girls in the bar wacko.png

Buying wholesale sounds like a good idea but then I would have to drink hot beer... and drinking at home is boring, I like to see the world go buy so 7 is the best alternative, fresh beer 24/7 at retailer price thumbsup.gif

Really, is money that tight you have to sit outside a 7/11 rather in a comfortable bar? I drink Leo small bottles in a few nice bars where I pay 45-50 baht. If money was that tight that I couldn't afford to do that, there wouldn't be much point in being here.

Mine is tolerant!

The Thai wife and I have been married for over 30 years. We met in the States where my wife was a medical supply agent for a big Thai pharmaceutical company and I was a PR man for a Spanish based company. Somehow our jobs crossed and the next thing I know, we were out on a date and the rest is history.

My wife is a wonderful person although over the years the romantic side of the relationship has faded, but this is Thailand and one can still have fun if sensible and doesn’t get involved into anything too deeply.

These days I couldn’t imagine life without my little wifey. The secret of enjoying a good relationship together is to make compromises and allowances for each other, except each other for what we are, the good and the bad, but most importantly, always support and be there for wifey if and when she needs you.

Half chainsaw and half Barracuda.
