I'm filling out my visa application and I'm stuck on a vague question. Right after "Current Passport No." is the question "Issued at". I don't understand what they are looking for here. I considered writting "Issued at the passport office" but thought that might come off as smart-ass if they were looking for something more specific. Do they want city and state or something else?

Also, what is the best answer for "Purpose of visit" when "Length of stay" is 176 days? Vacation, pleasure, holiday...? Are there answers that throw up red flags like the fact that most people don't get 176 day vacations? Maybe I'm overthinking it but I just want to avoid any potential problems.

Lastly, I plan on traveling around as much of Thailand as possible and don't have any particular schedule. Therefor, I'm not sure what I should put down for the "Place to stay in Thailand" question.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Where it was issued - normally there is a place of issue mentioned but if none just the country name should be fine.

If using a tourist visa travel would be your reason for visit.

You will be staying in hotels.

Sorry, I should have mentioned Tourist Visa. So the generic answer of "Hotels" is adequate? I thought they wanted something more specific.

Hotels is what I put when staying at hotels and was never questioned. As hotels report your presence it should be fine - only if staying with a friend should you need to put a full address down.

Hotels is adequate. If you know the address of the first place you stay in TH, that's better.

Please note that there is no such thing as a tourist visa for 176 Days.

The most you can get for one stay up-front as a tourist is 60 Days. Once in country you can get an extension of up to 30 days from the nearest immigration office.

Depending on where you apply for the visa you may get a double- or triple-entry tourist visa, which you could then use to cross the Border and re-enter Thailand for another 60 days (plus 30 day extension) etc..

Correct, I'm applying for a two entry tourist visa and then I'll add two extensions.

Ah goodie, then you should be all set. Have a wonderful journey!

- American passports and many others have an entry on the photo page that says "Issued at:". Mine says "Bangkok" because that's where I last had it renewed.

- If you manage to pick up the visa on its day of issue and then somehow manage to arrive in Thailand within three days, only then will you get 176 days in Thailand.

That must have been many years ago as all American passports have been issued in the USA for a long time now so unless a temporary passport it will be marked as Authority United States Department of State.

I renewed mine in Bangkok in April 2003 and says issed at: National Passport Center. My new one is waiting for pickup at the enmbassy will have to wait until next Thursday to see what it says. Did it a few months early because my next extension is 6 November. Will pick up passport and get Income Affidavit at same time. Won't have to drive, 600 kilometers twice.
